It was not ever started... ... It sat in water for a few days. I would think it it was a mixture of salt and fresh water. I went by the machine shop today after work and they ran the head threw the vat and disassemble it, He said the head looked to be off a new engine, so that is good news. He said he will not even have to deck it down any. I think I am going to put 50hp nozzels on the injector while it is apart. He said he will open up the bottom end next week and let me know what needs replacing. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it is not TO bad.

It is running! I have put about 100 miles on it now and so far so good. I told you guys I would post the final price tag on this "budget Cummins".



$5000 truck

$125 tow bill

$1700 engine parts

$1800 Machine shop

$150 Electrical parts (used)

$300 back window

$150 torque convertor repair

$300 Gaskets

$600 sleeving engine

$50 turbo waste gate

$200 misc. (oil, filters, etc. )



Total $10,375.



The truck now has 117 miles on it and it does drive just like a new truck. I hope I don't have any problems down the road with this but I did all the repairs as if my family will be riding in this truck so I didn't cut any corners. i did go outside my budget by $2500 or so and I had to remove and replace the engine twice for a cracked cylinder, but it has been a learning experience. I feel fairly sure I know my way around a Cummins now. I know this truck bumper to bumper now. I saved the most on this project by doing all the labor myself. I will report any problems I may come across. Thanks for everyone's help.

Wow, that is a great looking truck. I think you did well, it basically has a new engine in it and should provide years of service. Plus, now you probably know about everything there is to know about the truck and engine. The truck looks really clean and as long as you are happy with it, you are about 15-20K dollars ahead if you had bought a brand new truck. Scotty
