I just took delivery of my new 4. 5 QC SWB 2500 last week and I'm so glad I found this site. I've been reading and learning everything that I can about this new beast.

This is my first diesel and I am wondering where I should go to buy fuel. Is it okay to buy from a reputable 'Gas' station (i. e. Texaco, Chevron, Phillips 66) or should I look for a Truck Stop?

Any wher you see a lot of deisel fuel being sold. . I don't always shop price, some places sell lower grade fuel than others. just keep a eye on your milage/ performance. You will learn fast.

I agree with KLenger. Flying J, at 67 Ave. and I-10 (S. W. corner) is the cheapest i've seen in the Phoenix area. They are usually 8 cents cheaper than the posted price on the sign on the road. Use the auto-diesel pumps, not the big truck pumps. Also, You might want to check the prices at the "J" down around Ajo or Casa Grande, on I-10. They are usually cheaper than the one in Phoenix. Get on Flying J.com. They will give you the respective prices. Remember, take 8 cents off the quoted price. Truck stops go through alot more fuel than the local gas stations, therefore, You get fresher fuel. Hope this helps! Joe.

There are 3 places very near you where you can buy fuel below trucker price.

Texaco at Ray and Gilbert roads

Countrywide at Ray and Lindsay roads

Shell at Gilbert and Elliot roads (I think)

Elsewhere in the metro area the retailers charge trucker hiway tax to everyone. highway robbery, and they pocket the 8 cents difference.

Flying J at 63rd Ave and I-10 west posts trucker price but has car/RV pumps at 8 cents less. Even their trucker price is 15 cents/gal lower than the quickstop places usually.

The places I mentioned have at times been as much as 20-25 cents a gallon cheaper than the convienience store prices.
