I called Cummins about buying a new wastegate actuator for my 2005 Dodge 2500 and they said it was not sold by itself... ... you had to purchase a entire turbo charger to get it. Anyone have any ideas where to pick one up? Any after market ones that are reasonably priced? What is a good price for a stock Holset wastegate? Part # 3599891 off a HE351 Turbo.

Sorry, misunderstood what you were looking for. Those I have not seen a source for. I would call Industrial Injection or HTT and I bet they can set you up with one.

Why do you think you need a new one?

Well, it took on water when my truck got flooded, so it is full of rust and water.

As it relates to the wastegate, is it possible for it to "freeze closed" if (under normal operating conditions) one does not have the turbo operate at a high enough PSI to require the wastegate to open?

I had a overboost code once (was re-set by dealer) without an apparent cause. Perhaps the waste gate could have been getting "sticky" as described above. IF so is there a way to manually exercise that valve?

Of course the dealership tech's answer was "that if it happened again I would need a new turbo"... .

Thanks for any responses...

It uses boost from the turbo to overcome the spring and open the WG.

WELL CRAP!!! I was using a vaccum pump tring suck the actuator rod back. I ground the weld off so I could see what was wrong inside... ... I don't think there was anything wrong  I though the rod push in not pulled out. anyways it is ruined now #@$%!

I know Banks and others? sell a wastegate "can" for the 03-04 turbo. They say it is not needed on the 04. 5 and up, but it may fit anyway.

Banks sells it as an upgrade for the 03-04 trucks. I am guessing that with the electronic wastegate control on the 04. 5 and up, that they accomplish the same thing with software instead of hardware.
