Mike,

Good luck finding this lube... . About 18 months back, I tried my

best to find it anywhere I could. A couple Texas TDR folks told me

they found it locally, in 5 gallon pails, but shipping to CA made it

more $ than just buying from the stealers.

I called the Texaco 800 number to locate a dealer nearer CA, and

there were absolutely NONE in CA that stocked or sold the stuff

at that time. The closest was Reno, Nevada, and when I called

them, they couldn't even find the part/reference number for the

darn stuff in their catalogs, since at that time it was too new a

lube.

There are alternatives, though you may or may not wish to use

anything else, due to possible warranty issues.

I have ~20K miles on Amsoil Series 3000 5W-30 in my 6 speed,

with zero complaints. Other members have reported good results

using Redline MTL (I think).

I ran into this same problem when it came time to change the lube in my truck. I used Royal Purple SynchroMax instead of the Texaco product. Good luck with your search.

Synchromesh Fluid

I have done some research on this subject recently. From what I can find out, Texaco no longer makes the synchromesh fluid 1874 MTX. The good thing is, this same fluid is made and marketed by Pennzoil and or Quakerstate. I've looked at the spec sheet, and from what I can see it is the same as the Texaco fluid was, and the same thing the steeler sells. I was in a local Auto Zone store and found the Pennzoil Synchromesh fluid in stock, sitting on the shelf. The part No. in my 03 owners manual (4874464) for this fluid, is the same as on the Pennzoil bottle for Chrysler transaxles and transmissions. It also meets Chrysler specification MS-9224. Hope this helps!

P. S. I'm guessing the old part number 4761526 for this fluid was changed to 4874464 in the new 03 owners manual because the fluid in made by a new supplier.

Interesting wanderson. I will check into this. I, too, looked all over hell and half of Georgia to find a less expensive supplier of this lube. The one that had been posted here that would sell it in 5 gallon pails was Monterey Petroleum in Ca. When I contacted them they said that they weren't ordering anymore because it was the rain season and most of their customer base was ag? Call back later. When I called back later, they could not get it any more.

I work for a Chevron Jobber and had no luck there either. Sooo... I go to the Stealer and take my beating.

I called Union Distributing in Tucson/Phoenix since they had a bil-board advertising Texaco lubricants near the freeway here. Nice folks who researched it and called me back in about 15 minutes. The answer was, that Texaco made it especially for Dodge and couldn't sell it to anyone else. He also confirmed that the product is discontinued. The Pennzoil/Quakerstate stuff looks promising. Maybe this will be the end of Dodge gouging us for the correct stuff.

I would say I am getting closer to Redline or Pennzoil. A 100K mile test is good enuogh for me. My method of voting is by not give the stealer my money. Not just for price gouging, but how They treat me and my wife (customer service). Dodge dealers could learn a lot from Acura customer service program.
