Where to find an aux 12v switch?!!

Geeeze you would think I was asking for something super trick but internet, automotive and switch manufacture searches are looking grim.



What I am looking for is a DPST, 12V Illuminated switch that will mount in a round hole.

Rocker, toggle or push button.



So far the only thing I have located is a rectangle rocker that will mean more work to install in the dash.

Thats ok for me but if my project works well (sorry- top secrete for now) others may want to try it out which means they will have to fuss with a rectangle hole too.



Am I missing a supplier out there?

Give these folks a shot. I think I saw some with illuminated handles when I was over there a month or so ago.



They stock 'off the wall' stuff. Hold outs from the days when all us techies used to build our own stuff.

Pac brake uses a toggle with a red led in the end. I have a couple of them. PM me and I will send you one.

I picked up a chrome toggle with a red led in the end from advance auto last year. Don't know if they still carry them. Use it for my valet switch, and mounted it in the unused O/D switch space next to fog light switch. Red light on - no smoke, red light off - lots of smoke.

Hey Pete, is it a DPST Switch? I need 4 terminals and a 2 position- on/off switch that will control 2 circuits.

I have a DPST, 12VAC Illuminated rocker on the way from Digikey and they say it should work on DC just not as bright. Gotta work with a rectangle hole on that one though

I bought several rocker switchs that from the surface look like a regular rectangle rocker but they actually mounted through a 1/2 round hole, they are also lighted.



I bought them at Oreillys.

Hey Tom, thanks for that lead but struck out there too Its the 4 pole 12VDC Illuminated combo that I guess is so odd. I am finding them in the rectangle rocker configuration though.

I couldn't find what you're looking for there, either. It might be easier to find a DPDT swich and just ignore the connections you don't need. Of course, you don't want one with a "center off" position.

Hi Bob,

I was also thinking a DPDT but don't see how I could light the switch and control the circuit I need to at the same time.



My problem is the circuit I want to control needs to be pulled to ground when the switch is on rather than powered up like most others.



looks like 4 terminals are needed

1) 12VDC power in for Illumination only

2) Ground for Illumination

3) Circuit control

4) Ground for circuit control



When switched to the "on" position #2 & #4 would close to ground.

Special resistive circuitry will be used in the ground side of #4 so grounding the Illumination through there won't light the led.



When switched off the Illumination would be off and #3 & #4 would be open.



So far its a rocker sw but where on a 3rd gen is a good place to saw a rectangle hole that would look nice??

With all the trouble you are going thru. I suggest that you get a SPST and use that to control a DPST relay.



Those are easily obtained, even thru auto stores.

Good idea, I will check that out. I just need a tab that will switch to ground and not power, having the switch lighted I feel would be a plus as a warning the circuit is enabled.
