Where to find braided steel line for fuel pressure gauge?

Well I'm going to be installing a fuel pressure gauge soon. I've heard of a few members running braided steel line to their gauges. Any idea where to come across some long enough to run from the pump to the steering column that will work with a needle valve?

In my case, the hoses were made up at a hydraulic supply house. Tell 'em what end fittings you need, what size hose and the length you need.

Hey Mark - check out Diesel Manor for a good pre-assembled braided line. Hydraulic hose is usually too stiff for my taste unless it's really long. I'm running a piece temporarily right now and it's so stiff that I can't even bolt my isolator back to its original position.



I've been meaning to order one of these hoses from Diesel Manor myself. Check 'em out. It sure beats having to assemble one yourself. You can bypass all the bloody knuckles and stuck fingers this way.

To heck with doing one yourself!! I will call them tomorrow and see if they can do longer lengths 3 feet won't do it for me. I'm going off of the fuel inlet to the pump straight in the cab to the gauge on a steering column pod.



I will check with the local hydraulic shop tomorrow... ... if they are open

Oh, so you need one really long. Do you not want to mess with an isolator? After I figured out how to use mine, I've had no problems whatsoever. If you keep the isolator to gauge line short enough, you don't even have to fill the line with antifreeze. That way you don't run the risk of any type of liquid leaking into your cab.



But maybe they'll be able to help you out. David Murphy up there is a pretty good guy.

I really don't want to mess with an isolator... . or pay for one. We put in a full set of gauges late in the afternoon last week @ Joes after my buddies showed up @ 2:30PM.



I figure if I do a stainless braided line I won't have to worry about it rubbing/busting. However I'm not crazy about running fuel in the cab, but like I said if I keep and eye on it and check the fittings every once in a while I doubt I'll have any probs with it.



I found a 60* pound gauge for $30, and I can get the pod for $30 so I'm willing to spend the extra $$$ for a good braided steel line.

Summit Racing sells the -3AN or -4AN Autometer stainless braided gauge hose in 3, 4, or 6 feet lengths. Then adapt from AN to NPT onto the needle valve. I used this and it's overkill, but what the heck!

I got mine for my FP gage from summit, but now wish I hadn't.



The local hydraulic hose shop custom made some for me for my lift pump with re-usable fittings (unlike summit) for about 1/2 the cost (and the hose was twice as big).



Nice to have braided line to replace that stupid formed 'L' they used at the factory, and it was cheaper too !

Mark, when I had my 01, I ran stainless to the gauge in the cab. I put a needle valve inline to dampen pulses, and worked well. If you get a leak in the cab, big deal. Pop the hood and close the valve. Its not like its going to spontaneously ignite.

Becareful running braided line around other electrical wires. It's very abrasive and cut rub through insulation in short order. I recommend coverin most of the steel line with split loom to be safe.
