Sweet, I like it. Is that 4" tube? Should be very stiff. I went smaller only because it was the max diameter I had dies for in the bender and I was concerned about ground clearance. Your's are mounted up closer to the body than mine so ground clearance should be about the same. I hope you like them as much as I like mine. :D

Yes Scott it is 4" diameter tube 1/8" wall. They had 4" with thicker wall (up to 1/4") but it was getting real heavy - may work for guys wanting sliders. Mine were not built to support the truck so they will be plenty strong for their intended purpose. I can't wait to get them back from powder coating and installed. With the camper loaded the scale says 13600lbs so I did not want to add more weight than I needed. I did mount them so the doors cleared them by about 2". I will post pictures when I get them installed.

I finally got around to spending some time in the shop. I got one side of my nerfs bars built and attached to my truck. I put some pictures in my readers rigs section.

My ideas were to create a small set of bars that are up tight and strong enough to act as a step. I only put 2 brackets on them to see how strong they would be. These brackets are u shaped and slide over the frame and bolt on top. I think I will add a triangle support from the bottom bar to the U shaped bracket around the frame. and possible a 3rd brace and bracket. I also need to tie the 2 bars together, with a small piece or a step, still thinking about it.

The bars do flex a little bit when stepped on, but they still hold a lot of weight(175 lbs. jumping up and down) when used as a step. At this point I think they would help in a side impact crash but are not strong enough to hold the weight of the truck going over rocks. I may even add a support bracket up to the frame mount. I'm not planning on rock crawling in the truck but I want these babies to be strong.

Initially I think I will paint them black, but I think chrome would also look really good.

Stay tuned more fab work is planned.

Looks like you've got a good start. You should definitely add a triangle brace between the top of your frame bracket and the support bar going out to the step. That will stiffen them up a lot and this is the time to do it. When you get them completed try to jack the truck up from them just to see what happens. I haven't tried that with mine yet.
