I am looking for a billet grille for my 03. I don't like the ones the dodge dealer has. Like the way you put it in. I really don't want to put it over the honey comb one. Is there any grilles that you install like the factory ones?

There is a "Pimped" out truck magazine called TRUCKIN' that has ads for tons of them in it. I am still trying to decide on a style. My biggest concern about some styles is restricting airflow. Don't want that.

I have Precission Grilles Polished Stainless matching grill and bumper insert.

That's what I'm talkin' about! That looks great. Did you notice any "air flow" issues or are my concerns unjustified? I hadn't seen the bumper insert actually on a truck before. Nice touch.

I have no air flow issues, in fact there is better protection for the lower coolers with the bumper insert. I cut out the bumper insert so I could keep the tow hooks.

JVolpe, did you remove the honeycomb grille to put that in? How is the bumper insert held in? It looks good. It says that it does not work for the sport model on the bumper insert. How do you know if you have a sport model?

JVolpe,

I have been considering a real billet grille instead of the plastic crap that came with my Laramie. This one looks great! I have the factory hood Deflector that mounts on the bezel. Can you tell if there might be interference with this billet grille and the hood deflector? (I see you don't have the factory deflector)

RDedrick,

Mine replaced the honeycomb sections. My grill is 4 seperate pieces that replace the 2 honeycombs. I re-engineered the mounting bracket for the bumper insert because of my cut out for the tow hooks. Sport model truck has the painted to match bumper and a different opening for the insert.

I can't see any issues with the hood deflector with mine or most I have seen. They simply mount in the same place the stock honeycomb grill was.

JVolpe,

How do the mounting brackets mout to the bumper if you don't have tow hooks? Was it hard to re-engineer the brackets? I have tow hooks and if it is a lot of trouble to re-engineer the brackets I might not get the bumper insert.

RDedrick,

I just used a piece of 1"x3"x1/8" flat metal and drilled a hole on one end for the tow hook bolt and a small hole on the other end for the mount screw. Use one of the inside tow hook bolts, then line it up with the mounting hole on the insert. One on each side. Very simple and straight forward. To be honest when I cut out the insert bar to accomodate the tow hooks the fit is so tight that I really did not need the brackets. It stays in place without the mounting bolts. I made them anyway.

I dont remember exactly how the insert mount instructions looked. I think they were for mounting on bumper that has the plastic insert on non diesel trucks. So some re engineering is for mounting would be necessary for diesel bumper.

Here's the one on my truck it's from J&J stainless out of CA. Sorry for the poor pic, I'll try to take a better one. The grill looks better than shown in the pic.

The J&J website indicates their grill overlays the existing honeycomb. Is that the case with yours?

Mine is a Carrige (sp) Works insert, billet st. st. .

Not a layover.

The old grill has plastic rivets, the new grill has squeeze clamps.

I paid $120 from California Concepts showroom floor but I'm sure it could be found cheaper.

I think alot of these places are doing alot of eBay sales and getting their prices confused for eBay and over the counter. One guy told me $150 and another told me $120 at the same place, I took the $120 sale.

There should be a pic in my gallery.

I got mine on e-bay from an outfit called grille4you, I think. It is made of real metal and completely replaces the plastic honeycomb. about $125. 00

Tim,

The one dodge sales is plastic with chrome plating. To me I would pay more for a metal one than pay $100 for a plastic one. I was going to get one, right until the parts guy showed it to me.

I hear you with the plastic but I decided I really like the Dodge OEM look. It's made to fit and you don't have any corrosion issues. You do have to remove the honeycomb grill to install it.
