wouldn't it be easier to buy a taller tire? On today's "Power block" Extream 4x4, they did a spot on ratios and tires with a Dodge Cummins. It will also be on Sunday morning. Spike TV.

Money in the Banks" Cummins Turbo project part II, plus the Borg Warner Shootout from Crandon, WI

Episode #: 2005-11

Air Dates: Saturday & Sunday 1:00pm EST/PST

KORE suspension systems is the latest install on the Banks Sidewinder pick-up that Jessi and Ian are building. And with some 37-inch tires, this truck will be ready to be paid off in this episode. Plus, action from Crandon International Raceway and their annual Borg Warner Shootout - which is made up of the top two- and four-wheel drive trucks anywhere - all competing for a $100,000 winner take all race. In this episode Ian also discussed gear ratios - and how they change with bigger tires.

If you are trying to get better fuel economy, I doubt that larger tires will help much. What you gain in lower RPMs you loose in increased rolling resistance. The cheapest way to save money on fuel is to make sure that your rig is maintained well, tires have good air pressure, and keep you foot out of the throttle.

If you can fill in your signature with your truck information, we'll know more about your truck and be able to offer better information.

Welcome to the TDR.

Thanks!

I'm actually running 2 Duramaxes with the 11. 5 AAM. Same axle basically as the Dodge, gears should be interchangeable.

If I put 05 Chevy or 04 GMC in my sig, I would be afraid I'd be ignored! :-laf

I bumped the tire dia to 32", and bigger will cause other troubles, and are actually bigger than I want to run.

Goal is 150mph. Will probably have to have a custom rear axle made. Making a "Sports Truck Diesel". Want it to do everything a Lightning will, get >20mpg, and tow 8000lb.

PS - You will get slightly better mileage with a reasonable ratio change when unladen and running more than stock HP. 3. 54's would probably be the ticket. I've seen it via tire dia changes to keep the engine RPM a couple of hundred lower at 70mph.

I think that with the D-Max in your sig you will get more exposure rather than less... .

The hits you will take will be good for a laugh also. It's all good clean fun!

Back to subject: The AAM axle is tough to after-market, Gear Vendor is an option but you may need to look at speed ratings. I think that an after market RE may be in your future. Nice to see new faces pressing the envelope. Also try the Comp forum.

Good luck, Mike
