Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Where to get timing done?

I cannot find any decent diesel shop around here and Cummins won't advance my timing past factory spec. Anybody know of a place in south central PA or around there that will do it??? Or will someone come do it tomorrow for a fee? I really want my timing bumped ASAP, anybody that has the tools and know how feel free to call me and set up a time to meet tomorrow to advance my timing!

Truck jumped time

My truck jumped time today and i need a timing tool by friday night for a pull,

I called my snap-on guy and he cant one for me that quick

Does anyone have one so i can pull this weekend???

Why don't you just do it yourself? It is a simple job and you should feel better knowing you have done it and done it right.

I ended up going to S-M Diesel in Port trevorton. Took the guy 45 minutes and they charged me $36! They are $48 an hour, which is cheap to begin with, and I was fully expecting a 1 hour minimum. Heck, if it would have taken him 1/2 hour they would have charged me $24!!!

45 min? Holy cow, that seems really fast to me. I have never done it myself, but I thought most folks took 1-2 hours. I am going to get mine done next week or the week after next. If a few others could post up labor time that would be great so we could come up with an average. That way folks will know if they are getting a good deal.

Yeah the mechanic there was good, he probably took an extra 10 minutes because I talked to him the whole time and he stopped and showed me stuff every now and then.

That's about right, I actually do it hard way and pin the pump so it doesn't move when I'm backing the motor up... ... ... I don't even own a dial indicator but would like to have one to verify the pumps timing on occasion.



45 min to 1 hour for timing or to pull a pump is about right.

Well I went from 12 to 15 degrees (supposed to be 12. 5 according to the plate) and it feels a lot stronger in the entire RPM band. Runs way better cold, and has more pulling power on the top end. Cooler EGT's 100-150 degrees going down the road, 200 degrees peak WOT cooler. The truck sounds nastier too, much more aggressive exhaust note.
