I am at about 85K miles, and I am interested in getting the valves adjusted soon. I am in Austin, Tx right now, and would like to do it before I leave for Colorado. Can I bring it to the dealer for this, or should I not even trust the dealer with it? If not, what kind of shops would be able to do it? I have been to the Diesel Injection of Austin, and it seems to be a little shed in a pretty crappy part of town that has one or two guys working there... Any suggestions?

Valve adjustments are not hard to do. It is no where as critical as a timing adjustment. You have a little lee way to play with. Unless a physical problem prevents you from doing it, I would just do it myself. Lots of good info on how to do a valve adjustment in the archives of this forum. That way you will have a better understanding of how your engine works and the satisfaction of doing it yourself and that it was done right.

Listen to Koa Man, do it yourself as a "mechanic" will give you more problems than you arrived with. There are a lot of threads on valve adjustment and the guys are happy to help!

KEEP THOSE TEENY BOPPER POTHEADS AWAY FROM THE TRUCK!

The number of the guy's in a crapy part of town has nothing to do with the quality of there work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Simple test is to ask them the firing order of a 6 cyl eng(1) and when you set #1 cyl do you set intake and exhaust at that time???(2) and last but not least (3) How many times do you rotate the crank shaft to do all 6 cyl"s.
