Just got my XM reciever and "auto kit". The kit came with an antenna which sez it is to be mounted on metal (I'm assuming painted metal is ok and on top of the roof is best) Where is best to mount it? how do you rout the wire out of the truck and onto the roof. Do you have to drill a hole in the roof? I've hate to route if thru a window and mount it on the roof with the antenna cord resting on the top of the roof.

What works best?

thanks in advance.

jebia,

I mounted the little magnetic mount antenna on the driver's side roof near the windshield. I ran the small wire under the weatherstrip along the left side of the windshield. When I got to the bottom of the windshield, I just ran it around the doorjam and in under the dash. I mounted the receiver on a bracket in front of the center console. Plug the modulator into the lighter socket and turn on the radio.

Works great!

I did the same thing except I had a mounting kit leftover from a hands free cell phone kit that mounts next to the radio. I ran my antenna wire behind the door jab weather stripping under the dash and came out right above the storage bin below the radio. My XM is the Delphi Roady

I have Sirius radio but they mount the same. Mine is mounted just in front of the high mount stop lamp. The wire is fed under neath this light right into the headliner. From here you can run it where ever you need to assuming the wire is long enough.

I have the XM, mounted a low profile antenna on the dash at the far left front corner. Works great, and no wires through the body.

Thanks

Those of you that ran the antenna wire from inside of the cab, to the roof, between the winshield gasket and body, have you you had any occurances of leaking (did you use silicone to seal the antenna wire around the body and gasket?)?

Did you use a wire to start the feeding of the antenna wire between the winshield gasket, or wree you able to just feed the antenna wire thru?

thanks,

Jon
