2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Where to mount Exh Brake and T/C switch, auto

I have seen in the recent TDR mag someone who mounted these switches to the gear shift lever. I think that might be convient but it seems it would block your view of the ins pannel and also be a bit akward.



For those who have an auto, where have you mounted the T/C lockup switch and/or exh brake master switch?



I removed the access pannel under the steering column and I don't think there is room for the wires and stuff for the switches behind there. I was thinking right between the steering column and the ash tray. Does anyone have them there?

I mounted my switches in the ash tray. It was unused space and plenty of room. Get a DTT Smart Controller and you don't have to worry about locking and unlocking the TC.

I thought about that.

Did you mount them so they are outside on the ash tray or on the inside... What I mean is do you have to open the ash tray to get to them.



I have the Suncoast controller and I want to have "dual mode" operation. It is a bit complicated. Basically the brake will activate the controller automatically or I can lock it up when I am in 2nd pulling a grade by telling the controller with a switch.



I just today came up with a way to do both of these with one switch. Using a double pole, double throw switch you can do both with one switch. I have a diagram I will post once I have it all working.



Now that I might get away with one switch I think I might put it on the gear shifter but it will not be such a big block hanging off there.

I have a stick shift but mine is mounted on the lower trim of the dash. Imagine if you had a stick shift and it would be down by the base of the shifter. Below the pocket in the dash. Theres nothing there to interfere with the switch.

I am watching you IRA, I always have a hard time finding a good place to put these switches while doing installs. I usually get some smaller switches and mount them in the black bezel around the gauges on the lower right corner. Kind of hard to explain but I can show you if you are interested. Keep up the good work Ira, you installs are looking great.

Here is a "schematic" of my set up thus far. I don't have it all hooked up yet but the mount on the gear shifter with just one switch is not in the way and it _VERY_ convienent.



Basically back (toward you) is brake on with the controller working off the brake signal, and forward is lock up the controller with the brake off.

Yes ,you can get a boat light switch that cost under five dollars AT Wal- Mart , five cents under . You can find them in the boating section . Its a pull push made a clamp for mounting to top just below the shift knob , pull up (on) push in (off) works fine you can use the switch that comes with the brake mount on dash or other place then run one hot wire to and through the switch this will let you have a led light on dash and you can leave it on all the time and use the stick mounted on off switch. ran wire under the boot and under dash to other switch with tape over wire and covered with black RTV looks ok . You could drill the stick and run wire inside for neater job . Total cost about six dollars . Ron in Metro Louisville KY

my unlcok switch is in the bottom left side of the steering "box" assembley in the cab (the plastic "box" that has the ignition key source and 4 way flashers). it just barely fit, but i can flick it easy with my left hand.

I would have liked to put my brake switch on my shifter but I could not find an acceptable switch at the time. I am very satisfied with where I wound up putting it though.



I pulled off the trim that goes all the way around the dash. put in the switch so that it points down near the a/c vents. That trim is a great place to route wiring. plenty of room for switches and wires. Had to make the switch wiring longer though. I like it there much better than the recommended location of under the steering wheel. I am going to leave it there. It is handy and it looks cool.
