I have a 95 reg cab auto. I want to mount 3 gauges someplace other than the A-pillar or the dash. Has anyone mounted them between the visor and the windsheild or under the dash. The 95 has the cup holders above the radio. Has anyone mounted gauges in the space for the cupholders. Later models have cupholders under the radio. Can I purchase that type of setup for my 95?

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff,

I have a '95. I used the cup holder (AKA cup spiller) opening to install a switch panel. One of the switches is a push button for the OD. That freed up the hole where the stock OD button was for an EGT/boost gauge. I got it from Geno's which included a piece of plastic to fit the hole. I have a Prodigy brake controller in the hole where the ash tray was. My cup holder is a cup smoothy from Geno's. I have mounted three more gauges below the dash in front of the cup smoothy. They are fuel pressure, transmission temp, and fuel level gauge for my extra tank. I found some black 1/4" thick plastic at a plastic shop that looks good for the switch panel, the trim around the brake controller, and made a mount for the three gauges from it. The black plastic is ABS so pipe glue will work to join the pieces that make up the panel. Easy to work with a drill, file, and dremel belt/disk sander. I don't have any pictures of the setup yet. The display side of the plastic is kind of a crinkle finish.

The gauges on my '95s are mounted about 6" southwest of the ashtray where the trans case shifter won't hit them and tilted towards the drivers side. Wouldn't have it any other way. A pillar feels too much in my face and dash mount reflects onto the windshield.

Former owner cut out the ashtray and had the boost and post EGT mounted there. I moved them up to the piller and added the pre EGT. It did take some time to get used to them but I like having them there over the lower position. Lately, I have been thinking about chucking the cupholder and doing something different.
