So i've got the Painless fuse/relay box, but I can't decide where to mount it. Have you guys found a convenient spot to mount it? I didn't but the water resistant version; maybe I should have?

I can't see the pics TC. I tried posting pics last night with no luck. Maybe TDR is having some troubles?

I wish there was a cover available that encompassed both the fuse black and the relays under one roof. I'm leery of mounting the block in the engine compartment because I occasionally wash it down from time to time.

Me too and so far no issues. I do not use a pressure washer to do it though. Doesn't really get that dirty behind the battery and the water drains off it pretty quickly. The relay is mounted terminals down so I think it will be OK. I had one there on my 03 too. Never had and issue with it.

So I opted for Kirwin's idea, but in a slightly different mounting spot. I'm using the grounding lug on the body to mount a bracket I made from some 2" x 1/8" flat stock. I guess I'll have to pony up for the Painless $15 rubber cover to keep the weather off the fuses. I have a few pieces of Kydex laying around. May try to mold a cover over a block of wood cut out to match the relay and fuse :D

Why would anyone add wiring to engine compartment when NOT Necessary? any Mechanic hates it Including ME.

A few weeks Back someone did work on a 2011 the additional wiring was caught in the steering shaft Knuckle. I mean what a mess, and almost cause a wreck and fire. $2000.00 in labor and wiring repair.

I guess it's a personal preference TC. I keep my wiring very tidy and always contained in split loom, secured with cloth type taping. Plus, I don't like fuses in remote places. I think keeping as much as possible in the engine compartment makes it easier to keep track of accessories and when the truck changes owner, it makes it so much easier to explain. Like I said, personal preference.

Maybe its BC if you seen the hack butcher wiring I see WTH, that wasn't thought out at all. I think most members her do right,so in those cases it would be preference.

Got the fuse block mounted

Here's a shot of the 2" x 1/8" plate I used to make a bracket. Simple 90 degree bend and some pre drilled holes to ease the install of self tapping screws

What a pain in the a s s to remove the block off plate. Nuts under the dash not an easy task to remove. I ended up cutting about 1/2" off the bolts to make it easier to reinstall. Drilled a 1/2" hole for a grommet to pass the wires through and a dab of silicone.

I chose this location for the simple reason that all my accessories are outside the cab. I needed power from the switched lighter socket in the center console so I do a have a few wires through the hole that JHawes used. Like i said I had it there on my 03 and now the 13. It is a nice easy place to get power from the battery lug, its easily accessible and out of the way. I do understand the issues with the wiring tangle a lot of people do. Don't get me started on why people butcher the tail light wiring harness to get trailer plug power!!!

Looks good JHawes.
