Hi guys. Seems most like to mount pre turbo? Please give me an opinion where you mounted yours and why. I'm getting the guages installed next Thursday and the vendor will do either, but prefers post turbo. thank for your help.

I put mine pre turbo cuz I am interested in temps the turbo is subjected to.

Some interesting reading can be found here on EGT. I don't have Banks products but found the article informative.

If you going to keep you truck stock I think post is a better choice, it shows turbo temp more accurately for cool down, for monitoring temps while climbing hills pulling a big load post is fine for a stock truck.

Pre-turbo. Don't know how many times this has been said, but we'll say it again. This is especially true on the 3G trucks with the tiny HY turbo. The smaller the turbine housing (and this is the smallest yet), the more it holds the heat in the manifold and keeps it away from the post-turbo probes. HUGE differences in pre vs post turbo readings.

I was kinda being a smartypants when I made the piston comment... the turbine wheel is INCONEL and can stand up to a lot more heat than the pistons can :p

I agree Inconel is very heat resistant but straight from Holset Engineering they say 1300 is the max they recommend their turbo to see.

The turbo is subjected to constant heat all the time while the piston gets hot on the power stroke and cools on the other 3 strokes.

PRE-turbo, most accurate, instant temps, no MATH that needs to be done to figure what temp you're running. . And don't give me the 'what if the probe breaks and the turbo eats it', if that happens you more than likely have more to worry about than turbo damage. If the aircraft industry runs preturbo, we should be fine.

Any special location for the "pre turbo"? Any worry with drill shavings?
A where and how post the way I did can be found here

Also some more EGT info that is very interesting and not Banks Biased can be found here

good reading... enjoy!

ditto on what bgilbert said

did the wifes right above turbo ...

buddy was worried about shavings so we did his at the #3 junction ... he was hyper about the shavings
