Where will it stop for you?

I am curious as to what cost per gallon of fuel will you stop driving your diesel? Myself, I am considering selling mine, as when it becomes un-affordable to run @ 4. 30 a gallon, I am about tapped out.





I am afraid if I wait to sell it, say when the cost of fuel goes over 5. 00 a gallon, I wont be able to get rid of the truck. Wont this fuel escalation also drive down the diesel market over-all?

I already parked mine and ride the bike or use the wifes car. had to use it yesterday and had to fuel it up and put 80. 00 in it and just made 1/2 tank,4. 39 gal. I am thinking about selling mine also but don't think it will bring much after seeing what dealers are selling new ones for.

I just sold my '98 to a nice gentleman and received a strong price for it, but it was one of the cleanest 12-valve QC trucks around.

My '03 remains parked except for use during hauling or towing trips.

I'm with you. I have wanted a diesel for a long time. After driving mine for a year I would really not want to go back to a gasser. I'll pay a little extra for the extra efficiency, power, and turbo whistle!

Well aslong as my customers will keep paying me to drive up the road I'll keep driving it. I am working on my Cherokee to get that back on the road so I can save some fuel money and just wear on my truck. Now asfar as other trips and such I just cut back on where I go and if need be I take my womans Crossfire and use her gas

Personally, as retirees, we're well insulated from the price of energy - as far as required driving is concerned - and by the time serious concerns reach us, the vast majority of this country - maybe world - will already be in ashes.



BUT, we have kids, grand kids and friends that are not so lucky or well off - and it's for THEM I feel concern. Not even CLOSE to thinking about getting rid of the truck, or my wife's '05 Ford Escape - weekly fuel bill is relatively modest, mostly short haul local driving. And what summer RV driving gets done, is usually within a 50 mile radius at various lakes and campgrounds - actually only down half a tank in the truck's main tank, and a full in-bed tank, at 50 gallons - all fuel still left from last fillup done late last fall, when diesel fuel was still at about the $3 a gallon level - currently at $4. 44 locally...



These are sad times for most, and not likely to improve in the world as we have known it - all for the riches and power of a few, at the expense of the rest...

mine is parked too, I only use it when I have to use my trailer for work. I have prolly cut my driving of it in half.

has it effected the used market??? you bet it has, back in july of '06 I took a bath on my old '02 that I sold privately, that was when the run up to ULSD took place and really started the significant price of diesel more than gas, I think then it was around . 35-. 50/gal killed the used diesel truck market at the time, I was expecting to get about 4k more for the truck than I ended up with. I suspect now that the difference is . 80 buying a used diesel is a bargain. makes me mad when I see all the guys driving around with lifted diesels, big tires, fancy wheels, and there are no scratches on the black paint in the receiver hitch, and they just drive to their office job, I say thanks for the high diesel prices

My limit is not the price of diesel alone but the spread between gas and diesel. The truck is usually parked save for towing. So unless the gap widens by a whole lot I don't think a gasser can be justified... no power, bad mileage, it doesn't compute.

If I had the money I would put a 4bt in my 73 Power Wagon and drive that. I love my truck but at 12mpg on a good day and 4. 39 or more per gal. it makes no sense.

parked the truck and bought a 92 Toyota tercel for 5 hundred bucks that had been rear ended and the owners insurance totalled it. It payed for itself in the first month I've owned it. It gets 40 mph and I fill up its tank for 26 dollars a week as compaired to about 120 for the truck. 4. 65 a gallon and climing here.

I sat down and figured what the price spread would have to be for the cost effectiveness of the diesel to balance out against the price of gas. When the math was done, I figured that diesel would have to be $1. 50 more than gas for my cost per mile to be the same as gas. Right now, I'm looking at roughly a $. 40-. 50 spread right now, so I'm sticking to diesel for now.

Mine is used on an "as needed" basis (I fill up once a month). It is bought and paid for however, so I see not reason to sell it.



I carpool with my wife to work whenever possible. I Ride my bike to work (bicycle that is) when possible (19 miles one way).

Still driving ours. We only have the 2 trucks, the Fummins is the toy truck and only comes out on the weekends, and the wife drives the 05 to work and back (only about 10-15 miels/day, I know not good on it but oh well). Like may others I have wanted a diesel truck for years and finally special ordered this one in 05 and have it set up the way I want it. I have probably close to $15k in addons in it, so it would not make sense to sell. I have a company provided 04 Ford PSD that I drive daily and try to get all the erronds ran in that to keep fuel costs down.



Not going to sell or stop driving, but when we go camping/4 wheeling we are gong to try to carpool and help with gas money. I can fit 6 ATV's on my trailer so that leaves room for 4 more to help with the fuel costs if I drive.



I really hate the way this is going, EPA are retards, Big oil is greedy #@$%!#@$%!

Ours is parked except for pulling our RV & we don't have any trips planed for the rest of the year. With being retired we don't get any pay raises except for Social Security & they are a joke.

I still drive mine daily... at 24 mpg it's still ok. When I change vehicles it will most likely be gas... the knock is I don't need a big powerful truck for anything... it's just nice to have.

I can easily get by with a small truck for all that I ever need a truck for.

(plus my son has two IF I ever need that power).
