Where's a good place to mount my Prodigy in my 3rd Gen?

Do I just need to put holes in the plastic panel below the Steering wheel?

That is about the only easy spot for it but make sure you install it on the right side of the panel so you can see the controller. I installed mine in the middle on the 04. 5 and on the right with my 07. I do plan on moving the 04. 5 to the right when I get another Brake Smart for the 04. 5.

I installed mine in the cubby below the radio --- a little more involved than a surface mount but it looks good and is easy to adjust without having to look too far off the road.

FJ, I was wanting to install my BrakeSmart in the asme cubby. Can you give some details as to what you had to take apart and how you did the installation and about how long it took. TIA!!!

The large bezel that covers the radio area of the dash has to come off 1st. I believe there is one screw (been a while), by the glove box garbage bag holder tab, and the rest is held on by friction clips. This piece comes off with the HVAC controls and lighter attached --- unplug the wires and remove. Remove the 4 screws that hold the cubby in place and remove. Once it is out, mount the controller in the cubby, run the wires and reinstall. The hardest part was snaking the wires from the drivers side footwell up to the backside of the cubby -- the standard pigtail was long enough but a real pain to snake through. I mounted mine to the left of the cubby and that leaves enough room on the right for my sunglasses... ...



Easily done in an hour depending on how you choose to mount the controlller in the cubby.

I thought about it with my 04. 5 but the 07 has Navigation.

Here's where I put mine, easy to read, and I don't kick it either. :-laf It looks like it interferes with the mirror but it doesn't. The Passport 8500 is mounted on a 90' bracket that I used a small machined screw and nut to secure to the back half of the mirror housing after I took it all apart.
