Thanks again for all your help. I agree, a pop up for me would be the best solution but it comes down to cost. Right now, it looks like a new camper is out so I'll be watching eBay, Craigslist, and other classified ads to see if I can find something used. I'm still considering the topper for cost reasons but would surely like the better comfort of the pop up.
On another note, I found Bill Swails' unabridged Alaska trip report on his Earthroamer website. It's written in a daily diary format. It's a fun read if you get the chance.

PS: Finished replacing all 4 ball joints yesterday afternoon. I never had any tracking problems but decided to make the change for reliability on the anticipated trip. I must admit the front end feels much better. Still waiting on the rod ends, pitman, and idler arms then alignment and repacking the wheel bearings.
