Here's one for the master troubleshooters. .

My 98. 5 has recently started to make this creaking sound if I hit a bump or while driving over an uneven surface. It seems to be coming from behind the dash, or as if its from the drivers side hood hinge. I've tried to reproduce it by pushing and pulling on things, but I hear nothing. Its definitely caused by the frame flexing... but I don't know what is affected by this.

I know vehicles develop cold weather creaks and noises. . but I'm afraid this one won't go away come spring. I could be wrong.

Further, I remember the old 89' 2wd Dodge farm truck making a similar sound under the same conditions.

Any ideas? I'm lost on this one. I'm hoping its something others have come across and fixed.

Deezal Man,
I just made an appointment to take my 2000 QC 4x4 S/B in for the creak in the dash. I found a mechanic that also has a 2000 cummins that I would trust for the T. S. B. , since it involves a chisel and sheet metal. However, I was doing some checking on my own tonight, before it goes to the dealer on wed. , and found that the creak is quieter with the hood release popped, and gone with the hood open. I was checking it by driving up a sidewalk curb in a parking lot (slowly). I noticed mine creaked the most when I put the right rear up the curb. I found that the black plastic closeout panel for the top of the cowl, the piece the wiper arm shafts come thru, that runs side to side, would creak if I put pressure down on it and slid it forward and back on the drivers side. If I get time tommorrow, I am going to pull off the wiper arms and take out the panel to see if the creak is gone then with the hood shut, before taking to the dealer. If you read the T. S. B. , you will understand why I have lived with the creak for over a year, as I was scared of the fix, but the creak has gotten so bad I can't take it any more. Just something to check before they take a chisel to your truck...
