here's the deal, stock 18l-19lbs boost max, add VA chip,no gain, add elbow-gain 2lbs, remove chip, still up 2lbs. take off chip add bully dog stage III injectors and the elbow, gain 4-5lbs, add edge EZ with inj, elbow-no gain(still 4-5lb gain). how do i get more boost? ideas are apreciated. already checked intercooler at dealer, no leaks, it never smoked before the injectors, now it smokes all the way through, like it could use another 10lbs boost? . also for those of you who tow alot , what mods to my turbo? i tow up to 34,000 gross combined, and am at 2500-7000elev. Just because the intercooler is not leaking doesn't mean there aren't leaks in the system. Besides all the clamps for the pressure hoses, make sure to torque down the intake manifold cover. The grid heater bolts are very succeptible to being loose because of their length. You could also have a defective MAP sensor. It might not show up as a fault on the ECM but may indicating to the engine that pressure is in the manifold when it's not. In other words, the engine may be smoking but not really getting the fuel it needs to build boost. You should be getting more than 20-21 lbs of boost. Either the engine is defueling or you are loosing pressure somewhere. Unless your pump is weak and just not delivering enough fuel  .

What kind of elbow do you have? If it's adjustable then screw the allen head all of the way in and see if that helps. If it's out all of the way that could be the culprit. I think about a turn out should be good. If it's not adjustable, it may have too big of a bleed hole. Pinch off the line if it's rubber and see if that helps. If your hardlined, I can't remember if the 5 speed is or not... then you need to do the turnbuckle, there was a post like yours on here yesterday and I gave the link.

did some testing

did some tests today, will do more tomorrow. with injectors & elbow can go past 1400* & only 22lbs boost. clamp off wastegate hose with visegrips get 26-27lbs but i can tell the engine is de-fueling, but still have decent power AND the egt dont go past 1100* which is good. now i added the edge EZ with wastegate tube pinched & get30lbs boost AND egt's at 1200 max . unhook vise grips boost back down to 22lbs & 1350*. i tripped my over boost code 1693 which i knew i would but now have 0500, does the speed sensor really do anything anyway? also on one of my accelerations in 4th at about 70 the truck fell flat on its face for at least two if not three seconds, anybody else have this? had lift pump checked yesterday but mech. hose too short so could only check in N wot 8psi.

Summit,

Just installted the EZ on my stock 2001 (see sig). Used the boost elbow that came with it. Have the EZ set on #3. Here is what I get: WOT = 24lbs of boost, no load (no trailer). EGT's below 1050. Called Edge and they told me that this was normal boost and EGT's for a 2001 5 speed. The autos get higher boost, as their turbos are different, and they lock the wastegate out. They see 27-30lbs normal boost. Will just have to wait to see what power gains with towing... ;)

I can get 30 psi with my Comp PE shut off and I just hit 40 psi with it on max and the boat in back. I have my gauge line "T"ed into were the boost elbow is. That way if I have to bring it in for warranty work the little fancy clamp that is missing has a good explaination. I think you only loose a couple of pounds of boost by the time it gets to the head. Some one correct me if I'm wrong.

I've been wondering if there is any reason to even use the elbow. Why not just stick a bolt in the end of the rubber tube coming off of the turbo and leave the waste gate disconnected altogether? I've been running this way for a couple of months and have seen no negative affects. With the Comp on setting 3, I'm seeing 26lbs at the head.
