I'm having to hold up the shift lever on the column when in reverse so that my backup lights come on. Anyone know if their is a switch in the steering column, linkage at the transmission, or worse yet in the transmission itself?

Well I know on the old non OD trannys(which is very similar to the OD units of today. THe swith is on the side of the trans and also doubles as the nuetral safety switch. Its a bix 1+" plug with wires going into near the shift linkage. If its the same its easy to change, you will lose a little fluid though. Hope i could help

Yes, like Clark said, it is in the side of the transmission near the shift lever. The switch it's self is not adjustable but the linkage is. Might just need a little adjustment or might be wear in the grommets.
