I have 2 28" hadleys on the roof and they are guarenteed to give the $##@@*& in front of you yellow pantsw/ racing stripes and speed bumps you just have to be careful not to do it to some old fart or they may have a heart attack. Just for fun next time you smoke some one and when they pull up next to you to start yelling, lower your window and when they start talking lean on the horn. When you let go of the horn look them staight in the eye and say WHAT? when they start to talk again do step 1 all over again and repeat as may times as it takes to watch the arteries in their forehead bulge till they look like their going to explode. It sounds cruel but you'll laugh most of the ride home

Cheap Aircompressor

got smoke? was asking about a cheaper air compressor. I was also searching for something cheap and reliable. A local mechanic suggested an air compressor from some of the GM cars that had air suspensions. We looked in some repair manuals and the late 80's early 90's Cadillacs, Olds, Buicks used these air compressors. I called several junk yards and found one for $30. Most were asking $130. These pumps have a little foam filter on the inlet. There is a little canister right after the pump which I think might be a dryer. I put one end of a hose onto the outlet of the canister and a pressure gauge on the other end. The gauge went up to 125 psi. when I checked the pump. The pressure tank I use is 7" diameter and 16" long. It must be around 2 gallons. It takes about 40 seconds to make 20 psi. , 1:30 to make 40 psi. I have the cut out set at 115 psi. and it takes a little over 6 minutes to fill.

This is all I need. I do not intend to run any air impact tools. The capacity is there to fill a tire and of course blast the Grovers.

When I was looking for horns I checked the truck boneyards and found some 25" Grover rectangular horns. I mounted these behind the bumper. One is right ahead of the rad for the air conditioner. That is a very close fit. The other faces the other direction and is directly below the radiators. I must have spent a couple of hours just playing around with the placement to make them both fit in there. The horns with round trumpets would not fit in there.

I have a set of Hadleys Marine Horns that I bought on Ebay. Came with a little Hadley Compressor that I hung on the side of the passenger side battery box. The horns are mounted behind the front bumper and the air tank (small one) is mounted on the support for the passenger side front bumper right behind the fog light (in a sport bumper). These are loud and people get out of my way.

I was walking downtown the other day with my girlfriends son (12 years old) and an abulance came by honking and the kid says "yours are louder and sound better". We went back to the truck and I honked em once and I agree. Mine are much louder than that ambulance.



As a side note about the legality of stuttertones, it really does not matter. If you dig deep into motor vechicle regulations you will find that any device making more than 100 ( I think that is the #) db is illegal (at least here in AK). If I remember its the law that is used to crack down on loud stereos that gets ya. Not that I have ever been busted for it, but they are illegal.

Roadside traffic noise is +85-88 dBa



Modern sedans are advertizing 25 dB of sound insulation. Add in the interior radio sound level of +95 or more and our horns really don't have a chance to intrude upon the driver's thoughts.



Throw in the concentration factor if they are talking on a cell phone and all extraneous sounds are ignored.



So much for sirens and horns.



But I am still going to install a train horn. Maybe I will get a marine horn too and alternate between the two for maximum effect... .

Ask Yo Hoot, member here, what he has. Those things are friggin loud. They are simply awesome. The timing on them is great, where one or two start, then the third comes in after a delay.

I am looking to put 2 semi tanks (8gal) in my deep toolbox then run em to the horns (picking up from boneyard tomorrow).

I would like to put a quick fill (air stem style) on the outside of my toolbox... . where can i get one? and can i put a gauge in my cab?
