B1 Shootout: KSB1B vs. KSB1 vs. B1B vs. Full B1

Estimate on how much it's gonna cost for transmission upgrade?..

I have the aFe stage II with the pro-guard 7 filter. Kinda spendy but very nice. I Like it better than the BHAF. Truck seems to accelerate alot smoother.

i too have the stage 2 from AFE. i like it . i was afraid of to much noise, but its not bad. you can hear suction noise thats about it. turbo doesn't sound as loud as it did with a K&N in the factory box. ken

Anyone ever try the Volant box and filter? I like the looks of the box, but don't know about the filter. Maybe an AFE would work in it.

Scotty II, cowl hole cut, TAG w/ silencer ring installed in a B1B works well for me. Turbo whine was a little much without the TAG and silencer.

With TAG & silencer, very very nice and you KNOW Scotty II is getting GOOD cool air from outside.

I have the AFE Stage 1, but with a Proguard filter and pre-filter.

YOu can hear a muffled rush of air when you get on it, and a little turbo whine, but it is not obnoxious..... I think it sounds pretty cool. Even the wife didn'y notice it much.

I have the Volant with the cowl hole. It has an AFE filter in it. The noise isnt too bad but some days the low freq. intake noise drives me nuts.

Cool, an excuse to post a pic :)

I dig mine, but it's all I really know as far as intake systems go. I find noise creation is based on the right foot mostly. Definitely lets you hear the turbo over a stock setup.

Bodybomber, there was one on ebay for the 3rd gens. It had a closed top, and a ram air tube coming up from the bottom of the airbox. The seller said it had a Volant air filter, I never heard of one. Wanted 296. 00 for it, was that reasonable? I liked the looks of it.

I like the BHAF its cheap and works well for what it is. I also like the AFE Megacannon(with scotty cowl hole) over the Scotty2. The AFE sounds a heckuva lot better than the Scotty2 and gave me equal EGT reduction.

Same as cummins I have the AFE megacannon along with the scotty cowl hole still from my previous scotty. I also closed my Megacannon box in some to further protect from the heat of the turbo. Sound is noticeable but not as bad as my scotty was.

how much of a gain are you guys seeing with just the filter compaired to changing out the the entire system? Is there a dramatic difference?

What didnt you like about the noise from the Scotty II air box's?

Scotty2 just has an ugly sound. I'm all for loud and lots of noise but you couldnt hardly hear the turbo over the "hoover" effect coming from the glovebox. IMO the AFE with the scotty hole gives similar results but gives a pure loud turbo howl.

It sounded like the turbo was going to suck the interior through the vents. Now I get the same sound but not near the same extent as before, and only during hard acceleration. Before it was all the time. If I want I can also cover the hole but I like the extra air to the filter, and I do see a difference in egt with the hole covered. Later.

when i put my aFe on my Truck i noticed (from my Butt Dyno) that i had lost some low end and the motor became more "Peaky" sorta Like a Two Stroke when the power came on it Came on . since i upgraded the Exhaust and an Edge EZ it has smoothed out considerably

With a little mod to the cowl area, the Scotty II becomes almost as quiet as a BHAF. :) :) Ck the Gallery. :)
