mark kendrick is trying to collect some info on alternators for the fab up of onboard air bracket. the info is going to brad at i beleive onboardair.

so heres the question do you have a nippondenso or a bosch alternator? the bosch should have a black cover on the back and be marked bosch. the other will have a metal cap on the back?

The one on my early '91 was also a Nippondenso - and by the way, I still have a nearly new spare that was purchased when I *thought* the old one had gone bad - it hadn't, the regulator HAD!

Anyway, I put the old one back on - sold the truck, still have the nearly new one if anyone wants a great deal on a replacement!

Bosch here! 2001. 5 ETH, Heche in Mexico 08/30/00.

What is this for? Whatever it is surely I need one!

Ouch!

Mark, that hurt:{ :{ Where is that Texas hospitality we here in Kalifornia are always hearing about?:D :p :D :p :D :p

Bosch - and added to other form....

Mine has the black plastic back so has-2-b ... any hows maybe the Mexico mades have the Bosch and the StL's have the nipps?

The need for the Bosch's may not be as big but what happens at replacement time?? or is it a matter of amps (have the higher output due to tow package). And then how much different are the pulleys?

SOTSU!!

My 2002 2500 4x4 QC was Heche'd in Mexico too and has the Bosch also. Maybe the Mexicans don't like Japanese stuff. But it seems like the ones built in St. Louis would use Bosch also. 'Cause isn't that where Anheuser Bosch is from? I just know I don't drink it.

you gotta love it...

++++++++

good one.

Now this is what you gotta love, I get up offa my can and go outside with a flashlight to ID my alternator. Looks like a NIPPO, but I want to read the tag. Can't find the mini-mirror. *** Use the digi-cam!***

Now it looks like my Japanese sounding alternator was actually made in TN. (USA truck BTW)

That's fine I've already had plenty of Bosch in German cars and Busch in 12oz containers. ;)

It seems that the pulley for the bosch is very different. Off by 2 grooves:(. It seems that the Nippendenso should be a bolt up swap. The cost of cadding and manufacturing a new pulley will probably be prohibitive given the projected demand.

I'll wait to see what Brad thinks.

Later,

Mark

brad will anyone be able to throw on a nippon alternater if they have a bosch or do they have a differant bracket all together? keep us posted. thanks

My 2001. 5 built in August 2000 Mexican truck has a black plastic looking cover. I couldn't twist my neck around to read the writting on it, so by the other descriptions here, I'm guessing it's a Bosch.
