It should be. But my truck was not until I showed Chrysler my build sheet that showed that my truck did in fact have the alt in question.

So it was 28* out this morning. Got in the truck and fired it up no noise or anything. I will keep this thread posted. I also called the dealer near me and they couldnt find anything on if i have an alternator recall or not.

Mine would work then not right up until it burned up. Cost me a grand to have my dealer replace it and repair the wiring that got damaged. Could have been worse and I could have lost the truck. Took almost a year but RAM finally did own up to it and send me a check after a call to customer service . The nice lady on the phone pulled my build sheet an there it was the same alt that was recalled right in black an white. I don’t recall how far year wise the recall group goes back but it’s well worth investigating.

Hmmm. Strange. I wonder if it’s only the trucks built with the cold weather setup? I was under the understanding that all Cummins were built with the high output and heavy duty alts .

Current alternator options are 180A and 220A. 220A can be had as a stand alone, or with either the snow plow or snow chief packages.

In 2012 they were 160A standard and 180A with the snow plow prep.

3rd gens had a 136A.

Did you spin your AC compressor pulley with the belt off? The clutch can make some funky intermittent noises in early stages of failure. Especially when cold.

And the presence of the noise has nothing to do with the clutch being in or out??

IOW, it's not the pilot or throw out bearing ??
