Does this truck take a different anti-freeze then what the cars use? I have heard that mixing the wrong brand can clog the system. Not sure if it's true or not. Some examples of what you guys are using would be helpfull. I just want to top the resi. off. Thanks

i just finished searching this issue in quest of the same info---my understanding is Zerex go-5 (available at walmart) is the oem replacement coolant. if i'm, wrong---please correct me.

hope this helps

Fleetguard Extended use

Fleetguard extended service colant is what I use in my fleet. I'm a member of Power Masters that you get 10% discount on all fluids, filters, parts and labor. You also get express service for being a member.

Make sure if you use distilled water if you are adding straight anti freeze. I use the Fleetguard Complete pre blend.

I just added some to my 05 and yes it is dealer only. . at 14. 55 a gallon foir the 05 anyway... its called "HOAT" I think... stand for hybried organic *&$&&**%$#$%..... my . 02!

There never seems to be a straight answer from the dealer.

Prestone told me theirs will work and Cummins said that Mopar and theirs works but would not comment on Prestone... basically went quiet and then said... 'not sure'

Dealer said any that state for ALL vehicles will work. :-{}

Scotty

amoil

as far as the antifreez goes i would go with the amsoil it meets all the world wide spects for diesels and lasts up to 750,000 miles, works good for me. all tdr members recieve 20-30% off retail pm me if interested.

"HOAT" only. Zerex G05 or the Dodge dealer. The local cummins service center only carries Zerex G05 now. They use it in all the vehicles they repair and they are an engine only service center. Our cooling system is just shy of 7 1/2 gallons.

I'm running Fleetguard Compleat PG concentrate, mixed 50/50 with distilled water. This is what the local Cummins shop recommended and uses in all the trucks. I'm approaching 2 years on the coolant with no trouble. Service life is "until first engine rebuild", whenever that is (not less than 350K).

I stressed over this exact question a week ago. Changing oil I noticed my coolant tank was low. I couldn't find HOAT, or G-05, so I dumped some of that new Pestone 50/50 stuff in it out of frustration. I think they all try to get you confused with colors so you use theirs :-laf

Hoat

Mine was down a bit when it originally leaked around the block heater. The overflow tank was about 1/4 full. Figuring that they will try to screw you on warranty if they can, went to the dealer and forked over the $14 for a gallon that had Dodge and Mopar all over it. That and a gallon of distilled water gave me 2 gallons of extra. Took about 1. 5 quarts to bring the overflow tank to midline and the rest is in the original containers in my toolbox in the bed.

So do these trucks come with propylene based or ethylene based coolant?

Neither. It's an organic based, environmentally friendly coolant called HOAT. It's also supposed to last a very long time and be very good at preventing corrosion and slime in the cooling system.

You can get it from NAPA but they will only want to sell you a case. Personally I wouldn't mix anything in except for another HOAT, I don't care if they say it mixes with anything, when it turns to sludge in the radiator is a bad time to find out it doesn't mix.

PS: it's not enviromentally friendly, it's still an ethylene glycol based coolant

I used fleetguard es compleat propylene glycol 50/50 premix. So I looked at the last time I change it, O BABY it's time with 72642 miles on it. Time fly's, so I price it at $17. 00 a gallon. I don't thing so. I'll find a better way or a better price.

Interesting. They say it's good until the first engine rebuild or 350k miles, whichever comes first. What makes you think it's time for you to change it out? I agree, it sure is expensive.
