The column shift linkage on my '94 has cancer - so I'm getting rid of it in favor of a floor shifter. I don't need anything too fancy... just something reliable and easy to install. I want a good reverse lockout... other than that, I'm open for ideas.

I know that some folks around here use 'em on their trucks...

Most of the shifters I have seen come with a 5-foot cable... this sounds insanely long for a pickup truck, no?

Thanks,

Matt

Thanks for the input.

I'm not concerned with how it looks in the cab - the truck is not about looks... and that's obvious the minute you lay eyes on it. :-laf

What I am interested in is how easily of a bolt on kit it is and that it's a quality piece. Does your B&M Pro Ratchet shifter appear like a hack job mounted to the transmission or... ?

I know that Nowel must have done his homework... but he was also capable of making up all the brackets if any were necessary. I don't have that luxury - I'm hoping to make it as painless as possible to the actual person doing the install.

I know that a 47RH is pretty much a 727/518... but it's the subtle differences that could make it an installation nightmare and I'm trying to avoid that.

Thanks again,

Matt

I will take a couple pictures when I get home tonight and post them for you. I have a B&M T handle shift knob with a botton for my line lock also. :D

Here is one picture but not enough detail :(

It is mouted on a bracket to raise it close to the steering wheel for easy access. This picture was taken before the Tee Handle was done.

That's PLENTY of detail... that looks AWESOME thanks, man.

It'll be a while before I need a cage and race seats... but the interior is already stripped (has been like that since 2 months after I bought it!! :-laf ).

Nick... the 48RE isn't any different than a 727, 47RH or 47RE when it comes to putting a floor shifter in. It will require some work... but it's VERY doable.

Nick the 47RE and 48RE have electronically controlled shifts... but they still have a lever operated valve body to select 'P-R-N-D-2-1' Overdrive and torque converter lockup are completely electronically controlled. You can put a floor shifter on a 48RE... there's no doubt in my mind. BUT - you'll have to relocate any switches that are currently hanging out on the OEM shift lever.

Hurst makes some good stuff... but I couldn't find anything that was basic, all metal construction and ratcheting action like the B&M Pro Ratchet. On edit - I found some stuff that compared, but it was like $300... more than I wanted to spend on a shifter.

Steve - that's a pretty sweet setup... I dig the custom console!

If B&M still builds the Quick Silver it would be a good choice. Never had one let me down. Choice between full ratchet and standard pattern and a VERY solid reverse lock-out.

Just my $. 02

It's one of the number one shifters in NHRA dragracing and is in 90% of all auto equipped cars. It's all metal construction. Look up pricing at jegs. I've used them in all of my past drag cars including using them with a shift solenoid and letting an MSD rpm switch control the solenoid. I've seen both c02 bottle solenoids and the electric style like we always used.

I used a Quicksilver in a Toyota Supra with a TH-400 yesterday and the day before. It took about 10 seconds of getting used to... I really like the idea of a ratchet shifter... and that one was mighty smooth. More than anything... it was weird getting used to the reverse valvebody.

The Quarterstick is very sweet. It's a bit more money than I wanted to spend, though. It looks beefier than the Pro Ratchet and I totally dig the aluminum bracketry and quick remove cover.

Either of these are WAY overkill for a 'daily driven' rust bucket like my '94...

Thanks for the input. Now I gotta start planning for a custom mount sorta like what HOSS has in his truck. :)

MTY I can verify Steve's setup. That has to be one of the sweetest setups I have yet to see. It truly is sick and in fact that pic if memory serves me right is not the revision that he has in now. It looks higher than when I saw it???
