It is real easy to check the rear axle ratio (non LS type)
Properly block the truck and tires
Jack up one of the rear wheels. (place a block under the axle, don’t rely on the jack)
Put a mark on the tire and the axle.
Have some body slowly rotate the wheel exactly one turn. (Transmission in neutral and brake off)
Carefully count the number of revolutions that the axle makes. (Estimate the last turn as ¼, ½, ¾ etc of a revolution)
Divide that number by 2
When holding one wheel and turning the other one the axle will turn exactly twice the ratio of the axle. A 4:10 will be, 4:10 X 2= 8. 2 turns of the axle, 3:73 X 2= 7. 46 turns of the axle. You can easily estimate the last ¼ or ½ turn of the axle.
Remember, safety first!
