I just recieved the appoval from the Warden to purchace a set of gauges.....

I'm looking at the Auto Meter Z series w/ A pillar mount Trans Temp, EGT 0-1600 and a boost gauge... but not sure if I should buy the 0-35 or the 0-60. Currently I'm completely stock, but look to do a "little" BOMBing in the future. Seriously I don't envision doing more than injectors and an EZ. Which way should I go with the boost gauge and why?

Thanks in advance for the help, -Ken

From everything i have seen, if the most you are going to do is injectors and an EZ, 35PSI is plenty. I was told by Edge that the most i should see on my 01' auto with that combo is 26-28psi.

Go 0-60... you never know when you'll need it. If you don't, no big deal, but if you do then you won't have to buy another new gauge when that time comes... . Believe me it will. When the bombing bug gets you ya can't stop. :D With my setup, I'm at 36 pounds of boost right now.

Ken B, I would go with the 0-60. I have a VA/PS and I hit 29-30 with a 0-30 guage (and it starts to vibrate at 26 or so). I teach a class that deals with reading gauges and it is recommended that you choose a guage at least 50% higher than what you will be reading. Using myself as an example I should be using a 0-45 gauge. With the combo you mentioned you should be around 28ish. If later you want more boost you will still have room with the 0-60. If you choose the 0-30 you will have to buy another gauge.

As always IMHO.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I appreciate very much. I'll throw another question out...

I know I want the EGT and Boost gauges, but for a third gauge would you go with a Fuel Pressure or Trans Temp gauge and why?

Thanks again, -Ken

If you could only choose one, i would get a Trans Temp gauge. That is more important to monitor all the time then your fuel pressure.

The only real reason you would get a fuel pressure gauge anyhow is since the DC lift pumps are horrible. I am putting a fuel pressure gauge in my Ram next week. But i am mounting it concealed in the Ashtray since you dont need to see it all the time, just occasionaly check it to make sure your lift pump is not dying. Go with a Trans temp now, and later when you have some extra cash and time, put a fuel pressure gauge in. Just my 2c

The only reason i did not go with a 0-60psi boost gauge, is untill you do (if ever) make the mods to make your boost go that high, you have a gauge that only sweeps half way. Gauges are cheap enough, easy to sell and simple enough to swap out that if i ever need a higher reading gauge, ill buy one when i need it. With the 0-35 gauge and only 28psi max boost, you get the full advantage of the gauge. Just my 2c

As always, everyone's been a big help. I appreciate the feedback and knowledge very much... . it helps make my decision easier. I'll go with the trans temp gauge for now... and as EMDDIESEL suggested, go with the fuel pressure gauge later on.
