Yes another box question... .

We tow alot, make a run every couple of weeks to NC from Ohio.

There are some big bumps between here and there, if you know what I mean.

On the last go-round my driver told me he needs more ummmph for the big hills.

I don't care about max-power or speed etc. I want a box that will do good with the truck while towing. I really don't want my driver having to stare at a guage for hours on end while climbing some of those hills either.

Soooooo... ... which box do you guys recommend.

Right now we have no guages but we will before the box goes on.

Thanks in advance.

If you have other drivers in your truck/s who may or may not care as much about them as you do I'd recommend a box that will cut-back fueling based on EGTs and max boost.

It isn't cool to say this but since it's commercial use I'd seriously consider leaving it stock. Your warranties matter a-lot.

But get gauges regardless. They will tell you when the truck is working as it should or isn't.

First choice is the quadzilla box, then the TS ramifier in cab adjustable. I have run both on my 2004,both are good products. coobie Oo.

I fully agree with the above statement. We have a F450 with a 6. 0 here at the shop, and I was thinking about getting a Xzillaraider XZT for it to improve the mileage.

Then I started thinking, my driver is not interested in watching out for my truck. He drove 300 miles with a turbo puking oil and told me about it after the fact. Luckily it just came from the dealer after a service, and they warrantied the turbo (another story, lame PSD's).

So I decided against a box. He would hammer the truck all day and not care about an EGT gauge.

You'd be wise to get a box that defuels based on EGT's, or at least make sure your EGT's aren't out of control with whatever fueling box you do choose.

Buy a juice/attitude for it and keep it hidden and set the egt defuel feature to what ever you want. That way when you have the truck you can mess around with it. . when they are pulling something on a steep grade and egt's are climbing you won't melt anything down and won't have to worry. :D

Quadzilla or just a step into the old school - Edge EZ. Both run under the limit with a trailer behind you, are the most affordable boxes, and are not adjustable. The ez sits under the hood, and I think the Quad zip ties under the dash. Hidden, simple boxes with about 60 more hp. Should be plenty. Plus, simple removal should you take it to the dealer. How much weight you towing? 3. 73 or 4. 10 gears? 2wd or 4wd? Good luck.

Gotta agree with Diesel Nut here. Simple box, no in-cab adjustability that just enough to get the job done.

I tow everyday. I use an Edge EZ, set on level 3 and have since the truck had around 15,000 miles on it. I'm almost up to 220k now with no problems and plenty of power to do the job.

A little more info. We are a very small company. No-one drives the truck but me and a very cautious driver I have. He wanted to know why the truck was so slow on the last round... . I asked him what rpm he was running, he said he tries to keep it under 2000. That is just the kind of guy he is. I told him to get the RPMs up. 2000 in 5th pulling a hill is fine. Runs good right there. The truck is a 2500 4wd SB/QC/6spd/3. 73 gears stock size tires with 56k on it. We usually pull between 10k and 14k with the truck.

Still up-in-the-air. The non-adjustable boxes sound good and cheaper. But the truck is also my daily driver so the adjustable with de-fueler sounds good too.

How much of a hit is it when they defuel?? And do they come right back?

I've opened the air in up (afe drop in) and the air out too (MBRP duals) so we should be running as cool as possible that way already. Don't want a BDDL because I like my stock program, it's an early one with no reflash.

I am hesitant to put in the egt just because I hate drilling holes in things I can't clean out, but I will not run anything (box) without an egt.

Thanks again guys.....

BTW if you see a Black truck like I described above pulling a 28ft Maxey goose and you are between OH and NC..... give us a wave.

I know that when the attitude defuels it is seamless... when the temps come back down the fuel goes back in... it will show you the percent that it is defueling. If it's defueling a lot simply push the bottom down one power level. It's that easy:D

Needs to defuel

I am running the Quadzilla Xzillaraider race version with the Bully Dog Outlook monitor. On my trip to May Madness with my camper my truck weighted in at 12850lbs. I had the Quad set on the middle setting (90hp?). Going up some of the steep grades there was plenty of power if I eased the accelerator. Temps did get over 1250, but I have the Outlook set to defuel at 1250 and it did work. Quad is working on a monitor/gauge package and I am eager to try that out. For carefree use, do get something that will defuel!

If you do go for a non-adjustable box, I think the Quad is a better choice.

I was looking at an EZ until I heard about the Quad.

The EZ is a good product, but it makes all its power with pressure and boost fooling. It is adjustable, but you have to open the hood to do it. Also you usually have to velcro it somewhere, and there can be a clue to a DC tech that you had a fueling box.

The Quad box (and I think DLeno mentioned this) gets 20-30hp from timing, and the rest from pressure and boost fooling. This lets the rail run lower pressure than a pressure-only box at the same hp level.

Sounds good to me if you're looking to be nice to your truck while still upping the power.

I have the adjustable Race box, and I've never seen temps over 1250-1300 (WOT on 140 at about 90+mph), but I have yet to pull anything of any significance.

I pull between 12-15K. With the EZ on level 3, I can maintain speed up most any grade as long as I'm around 2,200 RPM. That works OK with my 3. 73 in a 75 MPH speed limit area. If I have to run 65-70 MPH, I will need to downshift for the steep, long climbs. Once I downshift, I have to drive by EGT as 1,250° can be reached easily with the EZ box on 3.

I like my EZ, but gauges - at least an EGT - are a must. I'm an active, hands-on driver (wonder what a hands-off driver lools like :) and I'm always monitoring my gauges. Keeps me entertained I guess!!
