Delvac 1300 , Just bought a 2004 and got Delvac from Sams Club .

I ,ve read a zillion post on oil . I think any of the 3-4 mentioned on this post, that are changed 5-10 k miles will work great in our trucks.

Been using Delo since 5k and will change to Amsoil at 15k. Currently have 11k on engine. Fleetguard oil & fuel filters.

Switching to Amsoil 15-40 to protect turbo as much as possible in summer heat (115 degree temps in summer), hope to extend intervals through oil analysis inorder to justify cost. Oo.

Thats interesting, who will you use for the analysis and what kind of extended intervals do you hope for?

I will use Oil Analyzers Inc. first and then alternate with the Fleetguard service. I don't think amsoil or fleetguard uses an in house lab. I think they contract so I'm not too concerned with conflict of interest issues discussed in other threads. Fleetguard is cheaper so I see myself using them more often. You can purchase Fleetguard sample kits from Geno's Garage or anyplace that sells Fleetguard filters.

Considering the cost of 1 gallon of Amsoil is around $18 (my cost) and the cost of Delo 400 is around $6. 50, I'm going to need to get 3 times the miles out of Amsoil to be cost neutral. I normally change Delo @ 5k so I"m hoping to get 15k out of Amsoil 15-40 diesel & marine motor oil. I will change the oil filter every 5k. The cost of analysis I'm not going to calculate because I will do it with any oil I use. I look at it as good insurance for warranty issues as a result of internal engine problems.
