How come?

Non- Diesel owners

My friend wants to purchase a used cabover flatbed truck for his water & salt delivery business. Any pointers good or bad? What brand? Things to look for? Auto or stick better with diesel? Isuzu, Mitsubishi, Nissan? 4 cyl or 6 cyl?

TIA

My $0.02 worth....

I have heard good things about the UD diesels (Nissan?).

They make a neat little I6 diesel... .

Most of the guys that own 'em beat the snot out of them and they keep coming back for more.

The Isuzu's are more popular than the others. You can get parts at most GM dealers as they sell them rebadged as GM's. I've owned both the NPR(4cyl) and FSR(6cyl). If you can, the FSR's are WAY more durable and much stronger. I sold one at 345,000 miles and know it's still out there after 500k. I had a NPR go 300k, but it burnt a few pistons getting there. Overall, both are good trucks if you're not in a big hurry and you maintian them.

heck if hes looking int o 2wd then try to find a bering they stopped making them i think last year but theisb cummins was available... hehehe we have a few foreign cabover dealers nearby and i test drove a bering with the cummins for a tree service i worked or it was nice... too bad the 4wd mistubishis don't have a cummins option hehe tons of the mitsi 4wd cabovers around here... driven a few they are slow and underpowered ... but tough
