What is the greatest invention from the technicial revolution?

Which way do you like your Toilet Paper?

Had to go with other, I have always built my own PC's, other then my laptop, its a Compaq. I have built 5 PC's that I remember off hand. Seriously considering building a new one now, this one is getting a lil old.

New computer is a Dell. Comments? - Is a POS

Won't stay on line and the speed is really slow. Supposed to be a 700 MH machine, acts like a 5 MH

Put it in the case and took my old IBM thinkpad with me on the last trip.

My home computer is IBM copy.

Gateway, but I wouldn't buy another one. I expected a surperior product with better support for the extra money, but I sure didn't find it. Not a bad unit, just not worth the extra money.

On my tenth computer, two were laptops but they don't play games as good as desktops:D. I have had six different brands and so far the HP's have been near perfect. Once you tweak the HP it becomes very fast and reliable. Been playing Warbirds III all month and my HP plays it so smooth!!!!! Pete

I build my own for myself and others more than 150 to date. Cheaper, better, faster... . built to spec depending on what it is intended for. All of the main boys try to sell you "one size fits all" computers. Doesn't work. I just sold three systems complete with monitors to a small business for $550 each- without all those stupid rebates. They needed them for data entry and internet. Ne need to sell em P4's!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had priced a Dell and a Gateway with exactly the same components. The Dell was $2250 and the Gateway was $1780. Well you know which one allowed me to buy my HotPE with the savings that I got. I also got way more programs with the Gateway, some I don't use but at least they are there if I need them.

I have had better Customer Service with Gateway than 2 of my friends that have Dell. The only time that I've had to use them for a hardware problem was the new CD-RW that I installed quit a week after I fired it up. Gateway had a new one shipped to me and on my door step the next day! Other than that , I have had to only use the tech service for my Computer illiteracy. My system has run pretty much flawlessly.

I have been able to upgrade components for only the ugrade charges and my system is almost 2 yrs. old. They send me a shipping label and I send them the old component back.

My next computer will be a Gateway.

Got some of each. I've got Apple Performa 6400 with a G3 upgrade, a Power Computing Power Center (Mac clone), an Apple Powerbook G3, a Gateway (Win 98), and a Sony Vaio (Win ME). They all play nice over a 10/100 ethernet network, share a single internet connection as well as printers and hard drives. The Powerbook accesses the network via a wireless network.

I build my own computers. You can buy better components for less money. Another added feature is that if you do your homework, you can build a system that is upgradeable instead of rotting with a dinosaur. Some "namebrand" computers use proprietary components (like motherboards) that are basically one-of-a-kind. If that component fails, you're stuck with buying from that manufacturer. Another plus is being able to bomb your computer:) :) .

John,

My buddy does the same thing. He said he would never buy PC package again.

Iv'e heard the DELL makes the best PC for a Windows format. Hands down.

I've never had a MAC, but alot of people swear by them & will never but a Windows based PC.

A guy told me 90% of the websites were made on an Apple PC. Better graphics ect.

The Comodor 64 is in a box. The Tandy1000 is gone. The Packard Bell 50mghz is still running like a champion race turtle. My favorite HP 350mghz desktop is top of the line. Our HP laptop is second to none. And my brand new Compaq Presario 1200 is as fast as I'd ever need one to be. I've had excellent service from all of them with no failures.

Dell-primary working machine

IBM Thinkpad laptop-for travel and wireless roaming in house.

iMac-Digital Video, Digital Photo, kids educational. The more I use

it, the more I despise WIntel boxes. Apple is slick.

Amiga 2000-in closet, for video titling and gaming.

For a while- about a year ago I was able to sell 486 DX-2 Motherboards and chipsets with 4 or 8mb of ram for about $500 each!!!!!!    WHY???????? Because they were used in a photoprinting machine that HAD to have em!! And they are hard to come by and no longer available!:D :D And you thought old computers were worthless  .

My computer is kind of like Johnny Cash's Cadilac. Nothing is left of the original XT. I replace or add whatever I need. It's faster with more memory and harddisk than my wife's HP Pavilion. Needless to say, I'm my own warranty station with this thing as well as my truck.

I am pretty much computer challenged, but we stumbled onto the fact that most places there are computer shops that custom build computers (as several members here do) for less money than the "names",. but can use as good or better parts. When we have a problem, we haul it down to the shop that built it and we are usually out of there in 30 min. with everything ship shap again,--unplug the problem component and plug in a new current version. We have had the machine for six years, so it should be obsolete, but twice we have had it "updated" to current specs, something I don't think works with the names.

I like the generic computers. Easier to upgrade and you can control what software gets installed. For my laptop, I got a Dell and have been very pleased with it.

My first computer was a TRS-80 Model III. I think that I have spent more money on computers in the last 18 years that I did on my Dodge CTD. If automotive technology kept on at the same pace as computer tech. , our trucks would have 5,000 HP, get 200 MPG, and cost $1200.
