If You Could Go Back In Time...

There dozens of cordless phones out there and it's impossible to figure out which one to buy. What do you have and would you recommend it?

Doc

Doc, years ago I started out with the Motorola "Brick". For over 10 years I used nothing but Motorola phones. Several years ago I was forced to give up my Motorola phone for a Nokia. I fussed and protested... ... ... ..... and then began to like it and have been very satisfied. Another thing that is more important to consider is the carrier. With so many new "Johnny come latelys" out there now it is hard to know which one to go with. I have been with AT&T and am very satisfied. However, what works for me may not work for you.

Barry, I think he wants a cordless home phone?

If you get one with digital spread spectrum encryption, nobody with a scanner could listen to you. :D

Some of the newer ones will go about a mile from your house. I have two, and both are older. Dont remember the brands, but I'll look when I get home if you'd like.

Thanks for the response Barry, but what I'm asking about is the cordless phones connected to the land line, you know. . the 900hz or 1200hz answering maching/cordless phones, not cell phones.

To tell ya the truth Doc, i hav'nt had luck with any, from batterys not holding a charge to not getting the distance they advertise. I to would like to know if there are any good ones out there also.

Got it man.

Doc,

Working at this water treatment plant(concrete & steel) we have been through at least 9 different cordless phones in the last 15 years. Up until august of 2001 they have all had their limits. Most were in the $40 - $75 range. I finally spent the big bucks and bought a

Panasonic-mod:KX-TG2553S

Everyone that works here is happy with it. Cost about $120 totally digital, even has a belt clip. Also it is the 2. 4 gigihertz.

I tried some of the other 2. 4gig models and wound up returning them.

Panasonic makes one that looks similar to this one but has an answering machine.

Panasonic gets my vote. Ive got a Panasonic model kx-tc1700b.

Its a 900 mhz model, about 5 years old, and has worked great.

The base unit sits in the basement at my house, and I can walk all over my 2 acre lot and then some with clear reception.

Forgot one thing... . I read somewhere that the 2. 4 ghz phones are not worth the extra money. The reception is no better than a 900 mhz phone.

Hope this helps.

Doc, sorry for running a red light. That's what I get for posting before noon... ... ... ... ..... on sunday no less.

I've had pretty good luck with the Sony 2. 4Ghz cordless. We use one at our plant and I've been able to get calls nearly 1/2 mile from the base. It wasn't cheap though, I think they paid close to $350 for it.

Don't Ask Me :(

Seems like everytime I buy a phone $300. 00 or 19. 99 it works great for a week or two then I think My Neighbors get the same phone or something... . I pick up everybody else's conversations or the person's voice I am talking to fades in and out... . Ahhhhhh Just going to put in 30 phones and when I walk to another room pick up another one... . LOL

I've been happy with our Uniden cordless. It has a LCD display for caller ID and stored phone #s. Good sound quality and adjustability. I think around 50 bucks if I remember correct.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. The heck with the cordless phones. You'd think they would be able to build something simple that will work like it's supposed to and last five or ten years, but noooo. . they have to fill them with all kinds of weird features that require a 6 week course to learn about them, and that's is about how long the phones last. Then you have to go buy another one and start all over.

Doc

The ONLY cordless phone i owned that ever lasted was Sony. Panasonics always break. Uniden has lousy reception as do AT&T and Bell

There's a gold corless phone they sell at wall world for $20 or less. Has the Southwestern bell name on it. not real small. no fancy features but my wife hasn't managed to destroy it. It has great range, works for 2-3 days w/o charging and has good volume. works all over my 3 acre yard.

And when it breaks, after 2yrs, i'll get another one for $20:)

Panasonics and Toshiba's are the ones to get. The 900's work fine, and the 2. 4's are even better. Spend some money and save the hassle.
