I've been reading a lot of postings about weak Dana 60's, unitized bearings, small shafts, etc, so I asked my mechanic about mine. It was on the lift at the time so he looked at it. I don't have the central axle disconnect and he said the u-joints on the steering knuckles are full size Dana 60 parts.

I have a 2002 2500. So what gives? Is it an oddball end of production type of thing?

What are the chances that it has 35 spline axles in it rather than the 32 spline versions?

Feel free to opine & thanks for the help.

your axle isn't any weaker than any other 2nd. gen(might be slightly stronger because of the lack of CAD) But I don't believe you have 35 spline axles. It was only used at the end of the 2nd gens (Late '02 specifically).

 Are there codes that I can get off the axle itself to find out? If so, is there a website I can use to decode the axle ID?

I would REALLY like to be able to run the Ox Trax cable-actuated locker in the front, but they are only made for 35 spline Dana 60 axles.

Does anyone know of a source for 35 spline axles, assuming that mine doesn't have them already???

Call Haisley machine. They had something for less than $500 for the axles up front.

I found axles for Dana 80s on Haisley Machine's website, but not Dana 60s. I emailed them my info. I will report back what I find out.

I had the same problem on our 01. 5 . We wanted to go with a cable locker up front but world not work. For the same reason yours will not work, 32 spline. We got a A. R. B. locker for the 32 spline. The air locker has worked out vary well.

How many miles do you have on the ARB now? How often do you change the lube? I've heard that some of the earlier ARBs had seal problems, does anyone know if they've got that cleared up?

I read an article in one of the popular 4 wheel mags on converting to 35 spliners. Try calling Randy's Ring and Pinion. I think they said in the article that they had everything and knew exactly what had to be changed. I'm still thinking ARB but have to save and wait a little while for that one.

Wow. Went to Dana's website to look up my front axle and I didn't even come close to matching what they have listed. I have an '02 2500 4x4. Here are the number from the axle:

passenger side tube: 061 2 F 611228

verticle pumkin tag: 5207013640 3 54

611223

pumkin cover: 49492-1

04 02

Rev U

012599

That 8 on the end of the tube # could very well be a 3 that matches the 3 on the end of the tag #. Either way when I do a BOM search on Dana's site I get no results.

What kind of strange critter do I have living under the front of my truck???

The truck has about 15000 miles on it since the ARB. It spent last winter at our place in Utah. 8500 feet and 220 inches of snow. The truck spent 3 months in 4wheel drive all four wheels chained up. The ARB did a great job, we got the upgraded air lines and had no problems. At first we wanted the cable, not air. We were afraid of the cold weather and the air lockers might have a problem(water in the air lines from hot air from the compressor meeting the cold air out side). We had no problems. Changed the fluid after first 500 miles. Wish ARB would make something for the front of the 05 American axle.

The people that did our work had the same problem. They could not find any information about the axle.
