Are we losing the diesel wars?

Carfax report

I’m just curious, I already know the Dodge is best for all around towing, our torque curve comes on earlier and builds through a smoother and more linear power band. But lets talk hypothetics and fun runs. Just for pure bragging rights lets take for example a 2005 3rd Gen Ram 2500/3500 SLT Quad Cab SWR 3:73 (Auto) 4x4 . vs 2005 2500/3500 GM 4x4 Crew/Cab 4x4 3. 73 (auto) . Vs Ford Super Duty F250/350 3:73 (auto) Crew Cab 4x4. Which truck will be the quickest down the strip bone stock?

I gave my neighbor a ride to the Dodge Dealer today to drop his 3rd Gen 2500 (Identical to my truck) aside from his is Beige mine is Mineral Grey. On the way back we started talking trucks, we are in my rig. We past probably 7-10 Super duties, I mean it’s never been a ripe scenario for a stop light run. We see this truck Ford SD 6. 0 Crew cab Lowered! On 22" wheels, then we see this brand new truck lifted 6" 22" off-road tires garage queen. Anyway the guy see me and is hauling to catch up to my truck. Luck has it we face off at a light. From what I could tell, truck looked stock. My Edge/ Juice is being swapped out due to the 2nd malfunction, so I’m bone stock right now. My buddy says hey this guy want to run, are you gonna take him? I told him I’ve ran Super Duties before and pulled away no problem, but I had a box on my truck. Light turns green, and I mash the gas. My truck took a moment to execute my request as usual, but I was pretty much even with the SD. Once the boost came on I was moving, but the SD was slowly pulling away, not raping me, but very slowly pulling away, we shut it down around 70 mph, and he only had his bed at my hood, but he still got me. I told my buddy I think he had a box, but I couldn’t tell, he had a big chrome tip approx 6" but the truck was quiet, also I could not hear his turbo whistle, like you normally can when the Ford guys have swapped a turbo for a ball bearing unit or similar. The only inclination, was that when I let him merge over. He got on it again, and a very subtle plume of smoke came from the exhaust, stock powerstrokes don’t smoke very much like our trucks do, so it made me think he was running a mild program on a pressure box? What do you all think. I feel bad getting spanked by a Superduty in front of another 3rd gen truck owner?

is your truck an auto? I have an 02 auto and about everything beats it untill te convertor locks up. it really is slow on the go. and the psd and duramax are way faster off of the line even with a ez. its kind of sad, but when theconvertor locks its bye bye

While I can't vouch for the new DMax, the 6. 0s are fast in an empty, peadl to the floor situation. But it's because all of their power is in the mid to high rpms.

I have been here long enough, and driven my truck now for almost 1. 2 years to figure out that the 5. 9L Cummins Trucks are not designed or intended for anything other than towing. We just add various modifications, and tunning were the end result is a fast truck. I have just never had anyone give me a clear answer on which of the three would be the quickest, stock for stock. I don’t know if I have just been lucky, but stock-for-stock I can pull on a stock, similarly equipped 7. 3L Powerstroke, I ve done it maybe on three different occasions. I raced a heavily modified and lifted 6. 0L when I was bone stock, and he took off like I was sitting still! Then I’ve raced what I believe was stock a 6. 0L and ran him on Edge/Juice power level 3x3 and killed him like he was sitting still. I am dying to run a Duramax, and I don’t care if I get beat, It’s just that I have never ran one. I have had countless stop light encounters with Duramax trucks, ripe for a run but the drivers are always older guys, or a lady and are not as competitive as the Super Duty crowd. I will say this I have driven every combo of a modern 3/4 - 1ton Diesel from 6. 9L Ford, 7. 3L, 6. 0L to the venerable 6. 2L, 6. 5L to the 6. 6L GM Duramax, as well as all variation of the Cummins used in the 1st generation Ram, 2nd & 3rd Gen trucks. Nothing in my opinion feels as strong (Not fast) but strong and consistent & smooth throughout the powerband as the Cummins 5. 9 ISB 325/600 series. I will say the 6. 0L feels like a slug for the first second, then it gradually starts taking off like a freight train and gets stronger and stronger as it builds revolutions. The 5. 9L Feels totally different. You mash the throttle, and the power is the same, but consistent throughout the powerband, no spikes, dips or flat spots like a 6. 0L. I also notice everyone touts the 6. 5L & 6. 6L Duramax, the ones I’ve driven didn’t feel inspiring, nor quick put I guess prof is in the pudding. What through me off to about the D-max was how un diesel like the motor feels, albeit very strong. The best way I can describe the D-max is that it feels like an ON/OFF switch and the sound is horrible.

I've owned a 99 7. 3 PSD,2003 and my current 04. 5 Cummins and IMO the Dmax would easily outrun the other trucks stock.

I would be driving one now if I didn't test drive the Cummins.

If you want to go fast buy a Dmax,if you want to pull a 20,000lb gooseneck get a Cummins.

Cummins also get's the best mileage of the three even with 4. 10's.

I'm a Chevy guy(see sig) and never thought I would buy a $45,000 Mopar but I'm glad I did.

I normally swap trucks every couple years but I like my current rig more than any of the other ones and plan on keeping it,at least till the 5500's are out for a couple years.
