I need to throw an egt and boost gauge - aswell as a tach on my 91. I'm getting ready to replace the governer spring and go with a set of POD's.

Just looking for the best bang for the buck.

BTW - How bad do the POD's smoke with the 21cm housing?

I also like my autometers. The z series matches our trucks well. As for the injectors, they will smoke with a 12cm. so i'm guessing you will be able to lay it down with a 21cm.

What about a tach?

I've got my fuel turned up right now, so I'm curious about smoke :D

Forrest, do you still have that 16cm housing?

Another question - where can I get the spring for the governer? I saw that piers had it for a 2nd gen, but I've struck out so far on the 1st gen.

Piers has the 3200 GSK for the 1st gens, just not listed on the website, i ordered mine about a month ago for somewhere around $20. You just have to call them up and they'll look it up in the computer. Oh btw i have all Isspro guages and like them alot.

I have autometer Z series in my 91. I took out the message center and made a painted black aluminum panel and the two guages fit nicely in the hole. Looks very clean and almost OE. I'll try take a picture tonite when I'm in the garage and post it. I don't have a "wait to start" light anymore, I just use the voltgauge, also my rear anti-lock was disabled long ago.

POD's, pump tweeks, bigger cold side on the turbo,21cm hsng (my current set up-196hp)will blot out the sun if you get on it before manifold pressure comes up. Not all that bad when boost is up. I want to try reduce smoke with the next go round of mods, all the smoke gives us crappy PR and the emission police will probably round up a posse to make us clean up.

HTH,

If you go with a A pillar mounting system. The AutoMeter A pillar gives you a better gage angle that the Pro Pod setup does. The Pro Pod mounts the gages almost straight up and down. The view angle is not good.

Did you just unplug the message center and leave it out? I wanted to put my gauges there too, but ended up doing mounting cups on the dash next to A pillar. Looked like too much work to make the message center work somewhere else, and for some reason I didn't think to just leave it out. Oh well.

Wayne,

What kind of tq numbers did you put out? I talked to Piers today and he told me he had an a-pillar pod, just not sure which brand. I'm trying to get this stuff ordered and installed before late next week, so I need to make the decision on gauges.

TKingbury,

I actually extended the wires about 6ft so I could make a small console on the head liner between the visors, but I never got that far. Just have the plug tied up under the dash. Don't think I will anymore, I just crank 'er up once the voltgauge shows the heaters turn off.

My pictures are too big to upload. I have to get the resolution down so it'll work.

TX Gooseneck

It was 520 ft lbs. I had a stock airbox/filter, 3" straight pipe when I dyno'd last year. Still have the stock trans and converter with 200,000 miles on them, and hasn't disassembled itself (yet).

Wayne,

I got 340k out of my stock 518 before it let loose. I've got a k&n with a hole-saw ported airbox :D I'm also straight piped. I was thinking about a 4" exhaust, but it'll have to be a home made one, I'm not paying ~500 for an exhaust system for this truck.

I still have the airbox stock, but have 4" exhaust from the down pipe back and has a muffler on it. I traded some 2nd gen chrome wheels for a complete 2nd gen 4" system. Put most of it on the 91 and used the 4"down pipe on the wife's 98 and bought a stick of 4" to tie into the Banks muffler & tailpipe that was on her truck. Worked well on both trucks, got lucky.

The 91 is currently apart getting some TLC on the cab.

Hmmm... .

I talked to the guys at piers and they told me pulling a heavy load with the POD's = melt down.

Any experience with these things and apprx 20-24k lbs (overall including truck and max 2 big gooseneck or 3 smaller ones)

I would really like the extra power and the added smoke when needed;) Plus any future benefit with extra toys like turbo's etc.
