I got to drive a friends truck tonight and he has a jacobs on his. His truck is almost the exact configuration of mine. I couldn't stop grinning. I have decided I am getting one as soon as I can afford it. Is there one that is better than others? Anyone know where I can find install instructions so I can see what I'll be getting into? (no way I will pay anyone to install anything on my truck)

Where could I get a good deal on one? Approx how long will install take for someone who has access to a shop with all the goodies?

One last thing, his still has a muffler in it and I am working on him to take it out, but is there someone who can vouch for how wicked this thing sounds without a muffler on?

Thanks guys

Chris

Pacbrake

Chris,

I'm quite new to e-brakes but I love my pacbrake. I ran it a short time with my open 4" and then added one of Rip's allied mufflers. It was quite a bit louder w/o the muffler and I used to set off car alarms in town :D Now it's pretty mellow. You'll enjoy it when you get one! Good luck.

Chris, I bought my Jacobs e-brake from Cummins. The Jacobs brake was designed with the help from Cummins. The instructions are easy to understand and not hard to install. The only problem I had was installing the toggle switch in the dash. They give you a template to use but make sure everything is hooked up and working before you push the switch into the hole you cut. The way the switch is desighned once it is in I don't think you could pull it out very easy. When everything is installed it looks factory. Best investment one can make. Good Luck

Chris-- a few weeks ago i installed a pac-brake on my '01 2500.

the install was fairly easy and i LOVE this thing. others may tell you to go with the BD brake for more braking power in the lower RPM's but i went with pac because i could afford it. i also am using the 2 speed rear axle shifter switch. i believe if you go to pac-brake's site they have the install directionson the site.

Good Luck, Tim

my advice... . Plan Ahead Now... ... .....

do you ever see yourself moving to say a HX-40 or maybe just changing to a bigger housing. .

I don't have one but I'm going to wish I did have a BD 4" remote-mount, I'm not sure if Pacbrake has a remote or not, but I have the jacobs and once I upgrade my turbo it will make a nice paperweight because I'm going to come out 4" and up to 5"

after the downpipe I'm 4" straight back and love the sound, yes it can set car alarms off, search the forums and you'll see alot about the drone of open exhaust at 2000-2300 rpm. . I can notice it but luckily my military years have wasted alot of my low end hearing so I just hear the diesel rattle

-just my 2 cents

I saw a post a few days ago somewhere that said pacbrake now makes a brake that will fit right up to the 4" HX40 turbo... ...

Thanks for the heads up on Pacbrake direct to a HX40 I'll have to look into that when I put one on...

Your signature says PDR HX40, no mention of injectors or a box are you running that thing stock with a 40???

I have a 2001 HO Q-cab 4x4 and tow a 26. 5 ' Bigfoot and I have a BD exhaust brake with the switch on the shifter. This is your best option, works through all the rpm range and you can run it just like I do when I drive transport truck. I looked at all the rest and BD was the best choice. I live in British Columbia and if you want to drive high mountain passes then come on over with your new BD and try it out.

Yep... ... . that wasnt the planned order of upgrades but about 2000 miles ago my HY35 started making bearing protest noises soooooo since I was planning to go to a HX40 anyway in one went at the same time as the BHAF and the exhaust... ... . It actually works pretty well. Was told and expected it to be somewhat doggish in town but its not bad at all... ... . though without more fuel it just *sounds* good lol

But changes are in the wind... ... . literally. Fueling box shipped today, a powermax3 adjustable :) Pulling the transmission out this weekend for some rebuild/upgrade fun... .....
