i have seen several types mentioned here but wanted input on which one i should go with as far as price and quality

open tubing! some guys have done DIY for $50 or less. (mine was a custom job that may be a little overpriced, but i dig it, and the drivers on my right-hand side don't. that's what's important)

I used a BD cat back 4 inch muffler & tailpipe. The install was easy and the price was ok. Mine is a 96 and I tried a straight pipe to eliminate the cat & muffler and all i got was more noise & stinky exhaust. I think that some guys think that they get more power because of the increased noise. Just like KN filter, probably breathes better but can't tell any power diff. sometime you have to think you got more power because of all the money spent.

Jardines is a bolt up with all hangers and good muffler, NO I repeat NO welding. Aluminized pipe and good fit and finish. WWCD2 arranged a gp for TDR members It is less than $450 adn I believe no shipping.

I think that your going to get alot of replies to this topic, might be a good idea to see if you can meet up with a few members in your area and check out their rigs. I went with the BD 4" turbo to tail and am very happy. Personally, I wouldn't want it any louder. The BD has a good "drone" at heavy acceleration and is fairly quiet under light throttle.

I agree with JNutter, I have the Jardine, High quality, AWESOME sound and bolt right on! You can't go wrong with the 4" Jardine! Don't forget the 5" Chrome Monster Tip from Geno's.

I remove the stock system and installed the Jardine in 2 hrs 15 min. all by myself.

JNutter,
What was the final fix for the drone you had with the Jardine exhaust system? I got one of their systems on my '97, love the sound untill you hit the drone rpm range of 1900-2250. Found the 'drone' to be rather annoying on cross country trips. I have put clamps on the exhaust pipe at about 1 ft inervals which helped but did not eliminate it entirely. TIA

R. ebel: Jardine now has a larger muffler that seems to work just fine. I have made some conversions from the old to the new muffler with good results.

BD makes a good quality kit. Banks offers a high-end stainless kit that is also good, but expensive. But you'll only do it once. Either way the aluminized kit is good for diesels as the aftermarket kits tend not to corrode away as easily as the stockers do. Bigsaint has got a great looking and sounding system on his truck. I've seen and heard it. Really the decision is going to finally be up to you. How much you spend, how easy the kit is to install, and overall fit and finish are things you're going to have to figure out as factors into what you end up buying.

BPINE: The system that I got has the 30" Magnaflow muffler, is this the same as the newer muffler you are descibing?

I have the Diesel Dynamics 4" system, I love it. Sounds good, no drone to speak of. I have to be honnest though, the only reason I chose it was that I had a way to get it to Alaska for free (thanks Dad) and that saved me 150 bucks.
The shop that installed it said it was a piece of cake, took more time to get the old system off than it did to install new one.

EXTREME1,
installing this housing on my 1992 truck made no change in the installation of the exhaust.

Jardine: Best Fit, Quality, Price. A four-letter word less installation and to top it off, a straight thru muffler, I'll use it some day. . . #ad

A related question: if you install a 16 cm turbo housing, does it affect the install? I know the stock system must be moved ahead.

I see that some of the other 4" systems Droan at 19-2100 rpm.
The JRE 4" system Does Not, I repeat Does Not Droan at all.
Our new systems are now available with no welding and comes with a really neat looking Chrome 4" oval tip.

I keep reading about "droning. " What do you guys mean by "droning?"
I just installed a DD 4" w/ Walker muffler. The system went in okay, but mkes a rattle at moderate acceleration. Is this "droning?"

When I mentioned the "drone", I meant the pitch of the exhaust sound, not the sound of a rattle. I have NO RATTLE at any rpm's. Just wanted to clear that up. The BD kicks a$$ IMHO.

R. ebel yes it is. I order one for my truck yesterday some how my truck ended up with a combo of 3 different systems. Now it will be all Jardine. Anyone interested in a Banks Muffler and tail pipe?

i have the JRE 4 " system with a dynomax race magnum muffler . though it had to have the hangers welded on , which IMO made sure it was placed away from things it shouldn't have been hitting , i did elect to have it installed at JRE and was very happy with the outcome and it does not drone .

as far as it not adding HP , my times slips from a same day comparision at the drag strip showed a 2MPH increase in trap speed . MPH IS HP , plain and simple .
