I will be purchasing fender flares soon and I am curious what the memberships experiences are with the various makes out there. What works, what doesn't and WHY? All input is welcome!
777MECHANIC has "ZENON" (I think) fender flares, I saw his truck in Tulsa, those flares are real nice with a excelent fit, Eventually I will get them also, maybee he'll chime in and tell you what he thinks of 'em.
I've got the Mopar flares available at your local stealer. Same ones on the Sport model. I like the good fit and finish and they came color matched to my truck already. A little pricey, but they look good and added about 1. 5" tire coverage.
The stealer flares are either made my Xenon or darn close. If you want color matched flares the ones from the stealer are actually quite reasonalbe. Check out mopar4less... they quoted me $470 + shipping. This was about what my dealer wanted for them.
The Mopar Flares are no longer available except to what dealers have in stock. My buddy, who is in charge of the parts department, said DC quit making them because of model changeover, and was selling warehouse stock. DC was selling to dealers cheap to sell out. He was at my house earlier tonight to drop off some parts after work. Said they sold a red diesel, and buyer wanted Mopar Flares. All warehouse had left was several white, and 4 black. Had to order a set of black and send them out to be painted red. If you find a set, you would be lucky. I have a set of Warn Thinline Flares on my truck. They use 3M tape on outer edge to hold in place. Fit is excellent. Had Bushwackers on my other Ram. They use a rubber lip on outer edge. Wore paint off body from rubbing. Also, rubber lip kept rolling off where doors opened.
What Dodge sels as OEM flares are the original Xenon's they bought the original mold design. As a Acc. dealer I have tried several diffrent kind's of flares inc Xenon old and new Bushwacker, EGR and a few others. The best fit I have found is still the EGR's on all different vehicles tried The Xenon's and fact. Dodge have 2 sided tape that holds them to the body(good luck) most if not everone of them pulls loose and requires retaping(this is more fun than most deserve) The painting of these if required is not an easy task requiring special adhesion promotors, anyways I haven't been impressed. The EGR's do have the rubber where they mount to the body and after time will probably wear on the paint(I did'nt put them on to take them off) and if the tape comes loose (Xenons) same problem. Painting of the EGR's is straight foreward. Usually the end price after painting is about the same as pre painted flares, but if you have a good body shop the match will be exact not what the factory thought the color of your truck should be.
I put Bushwacker OE flares on my truck - the fit was very nice and the install was pretty easy. check out www.central4wd.com
they had the best price at the time and no shipping charge. - I went with the OE style has they stick out further and protect my truck from rocks and other garbage.
