Hey all,My next bomb wil probably be injectors. Just want to know

what will work best with my edge. I do quite a bit of hauling and

live in the mountains of western Maryland so egt. s will be a

concern. Iwant decent power and still be able to pull my 580ck

around. I sometimes pull 10-20k up 8-10% grades that are 8-10

miles long. I know I can always turn the box off,but can't do that

with injectors. I just installed Mopar-guys B. H. A. F. and have'nt

had a chance to tow heavy with it but it seems to help egt. s

empty. Just wanted some advice from you guys in the know. I

know clutch is also around the corner,I know probaly southbend

but which model. Had a PHORD beat me at the truck pulls, by 3feet ,not gonna happen next year  . Of course it was my

first pull and i probaly needed some better tires. Also at this

local fair they put all diesels in the heavy class,so iwas about 60#

under weight. Sorry so long. Just came on board yesterday. Doug.

Well, from other posts on the same subject, I would say either DD or BD stage 2's are the best bet. If you weren't towing heavy up fairly steep hills so much, I would have to say go to stage 3's or bigger :D but then you would likely have serious EGT issues with your towing situation.

My personal opinion: don't piddle around with the 275's or even stage 1's, go for the most your application will allow, then you won't have to do another injector upgrade later when you come to feel the smaller ones weren't enought after all!

Enjoy!

Tom

Stage 2

Stage 2 injectors are great. I went with DD2s and have all the power I need with out my box on. If I would have known injectors gave this much performance I would have bought them first . If you dont have a box with a boost fooler you will need to get one. Sam

been there done that

The EZ and 275's make an awesome combo

But once you get the taste of more power

bye bye 275's

go for the 2's #ad

Personally, I have DD2's and an Edge EZ. I think they make a real good combination for towing power and acceptable EGT's (not too high).

I'm always interested in more power, but have been told that DD3's would sky rocket the egt's while towing.

I'm happy with the 275's with a PE-EZ.

This past weekend I pulled a trailer with a small Caterpillar from Portland OR to central CA. I weighed at the truck scales near Roseburg and was 20500 lbs gross combined weight.

I've got a 98. 5 2500 4x4 with 5 speed and 3. 54 gears. I never had to drop below 4th (direct) gear to pull any of the steep hills or long passes along I-5.

Bigger injectors might give me more power, but with the 275's I'm still running a stock clutch without slippage and I don't have high exhaust temps.

thanks for the info

Thanks for all of your help guys. I am a diesel mechanic,(worked

for a k. w. dealer for 7years and Detroit diesel for about ayear).

but kind of new to these little(but bad**s)5. 9's. I now work for

the local power co. It's kinda gravy here but i've paid my dues at those flat rate shops. Oh yeah i forgot to mention that Phord that

beat me at the truck pulls was a crew-cab dually with his inside

duals off. not really fair, but it was all about traction that night. not making excuses but at 230' I still had 30 lbs of boost and my tires were squeeling, yes squeeling on dirt,(track S*CKED). I got third

place out of 15 trucks(mostly Dodges)so not too bad for my first pull ever. :D Doug.

P. S. if you guys ever need any big truck info I'ii try to help you out.

Hey Doug.

Welcome to the TDR. I am getting ready to purchase DD II's. From information on a thread I started. It looks like EGT's and Smoke will stay low.

got the dd2s in yesturday. awesome hauling my 11k lb rig w/camper. cant wait to hook up the big trailer and go up the long big test hill. on the shorter hills close to home it pulled real strong with no increase in egt over the 275s. also no more smoke than the 275s.

wish i got the dd2s along time ago.

Time for me to jump in too!

I love my DD Stage II's, and I also installed the DD boost module and boost elbow on my turbo.

I've become accustomed to my truck so much so, that when I took my mechanic for a ride, I stepped into it and started making excuses like, "I know it's not really fast, but it's fun" and he was like, "Holy crap, man! This thing is a LOT faster than stock. "

I guess it's been so long since I drove the truck with stock injectors and boost that I've lost sight of just how much more power I must be cooking up! :D

Greg

DTT VB and 91% TC in my future. Then, it's limitless power!

Hey Doug, welcome to the TDR ! Hope to see ya at the Cummins Big Rig Nationals in Budds Creek, Maryland, next April !

I tow 7000lbs with DD3 injectors, a TST Powermax3 set on level 5, and an Hx40 turbo. It fairly screams up the hills, no EGT worries, though I do have to watch the gauges on really steep hills. You'll want something milder if you want to keep the stock turbo, DD2's and an EZ Edge are a great combination...

Hey all. Pardon my ignorance but which co. makes DD2's and what is there website address. Briar where are you at in Ky. I spent 2 years at ft. knox while I was in the army. A bud that was stationed with me was from Whitesville. Used to go down there on the weekends ,ride horsesand drink beer. Loaded the saddle bags full of ice and suds:D . Good times. He was a good old boy too. Also met some wild women down there;) . Also where's Budds creek Md? Is it close to baltimore?I will definately be there tho. Doug

I chose Bully Dog#2 With the help of Doug from Advanced Diesel

http://www.smokindiesel.com

At first, They smoked too much and the EGT's were a bit high, but I was running the stock exhaust system then. My budget has bee stretched on bombing lately, So Instead of a 4" system ,I went with the Walker 3" (#21468) muffler to replace the stock muffler/resonater assembly. $51. 00 for the muffler & $75 for a real clean install job @ my local muffller shop. After that Mod EGT's dropped a bunch 100-150 deg and my mileage went up to around 19-20 @ 70MPH Hwy. Power from just my DD True Torque box was good, add on some Stage 2's and it's nothing short of amazing!:D :D

Now class, lets review

So in terms of fuel delivery (better known as power) would this be about the proper scale?

1. Stock injectors

2. Bosch 275's (RV injectors)

3. DD or anyone else's stage 1

4. Stage 2

5. Stage 3

I am also thinking of a set of injectors but a clutch will have to be on the agenda also. I've been using the EZ on the 2 setting to help the clutch as it is. Does this scale look about right? How much of a difference is there between the 275's and the stage 1's? Thanks.

If you want a matched set of injectors go with DD1s. For all around performance and drivability go with the DD2s, anything above DD2s you will be going too far into a race set up. Exhaust temps will climb pretty easy. Instead of DD3s go with a Edge Comp box and when you are not towing on say level 1 you will have all the fun :D you can handle. Sam

Budds Creek is in Souther MD, below Waldorf. From out west, run I-70 E to I-270 S E-495 around Washington and take 301 S.

Somewhere down there. Its been a while since I went to any of the mud bog races down there.
