Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) which box to stack?

I'm interested in some injectors but don't know where to begin. I would like to have an extra 50-75 hp and some more smoke. Can I add injectors with just the few mods that I have? This is for a daily driver so I would like to not make too many sacrifices in driveability and reliability. I would like to know what would be the best injector at a reasonable price. Any info is appreciated. Thanks

Youre going to receive alot of different opinions on this question.

One thought is it is pretty hard to go wrong with a set of Don M's Mach 1. 5 EDMs , or Diesel Dynamics DD2's. Both of these injectors have given alot of good results, while keeping excellent drivability, and they tow well also.

Well, you already have a chip, so a BHAF would not be a bad improvement. Most are canning (Garbage) the K&N's! SNOKING

With the box and just adding RV275 injectors would(could) slip your stock clutch. EDM Mach 1. 5's would be the ticket. .

I have had my DD2s for over 20K miles now. While many assured me that my clutch would NOT hold DD2s and an EZ, mine did. Keep in mind that this is NOT typical, and if you are adding injectors in the 80hp range or more, include a clutch in your calculations.

I think part of the reason mine still holds is that I:

1) Almost always start in granny first gear (less slippage with each launch)

2) Live at high altitude where your truck will make a little less hp.

I've been happy overall with the injectors. Decent HP, acceptable mpg (I usually get around 20 hwy), and my EGTs are well under control with ported stock housing and BHAF while living at 6100 ft.

Would I buy them again? No. EDMs are so superior in every way, that even if DD2s were the same price as 275s, then I'd buy either 275s or EDMs.

Honed injectors are like a modern horse and buggy-- they work, but technology has marched on.

I recommend Formula 1 injectors. As mentioned above the Mach 1. 5's are hard to beat for what you are looking for.

Hohn my son has the chance to buy some ts performance injectors but dont know anything about them you say honed is old hat what other options are there these injectors are pretty cheap being $300 i would think but i dont know thanks

EDM is the only way to go. F1 makes the best and 1. 5's (80 hp) are what you're looking for with that setup. I buy through Rip @ Source Automotive but there are a couple other dealers.

My DD1 Jammers seem to work fine, no smoke to speak of. The DD Jammers are eight hole injectors, so are not honed stockers, if I understand how this all works. Yesterday I was playing with the different sublevels of my Comp in EZ mode and still saw no smoke, which is fine with me. I could not tell much difference in the sublevels, but turning the box off shows that it is working. SNOKING

I have no experience with TS injectors, and don't know anyone who does.

I only recommend injectors from Bosch (275s) or F1 diesel right now. Anything else, and you better NOT try a set of F1 EDMs-- you'll regret NOT getting them!

An example: A friend of mine has atruck almost identical to mine. His is an 01. 5 ETH/DEE. We put in some Mach 1s (65hp). He already had an EZ. We compared our trucks and drove one against the other.

My truck with DD2s? Smoked a little, but it was controllable. Burying the pedal left quite a cloud. Felt pretty peppy once on boost. I get about 16mpg city/20hwy on summer fuel. I have my jumper at #1 (mildest)

His truck with Mach 1s? ALMOST NO SMOKE AT 6100 feet! I think they smoke about like they would with JUST the EZ (his jumper was on #2). This when the pedal was BURIED. His truck more responsive than mine off boost. ON boost, it felt about the same (even though rated only 65hp). His mpg is 17 city/21-23 hwy on summer fuel.

In short, a Mach 1. 5 at 85hp will feel as strong (in some cases stronger) than a DD3 at 100+hp, while delivering WAY less smoke and EGT and better mpg.

So-- stick with the safe RV275s, or F1 EDMs. Any other injector isn't going to make you as happy. There's no comparison in joy-per-dollar.

Talk to those guys who USED to run honed injectors and NOW run EDMs-- They are the ones that will convince you.

Frateli Bosio injector nozzle?

Have enough people had these injectors yet to say what they are like in comparison to RV 275's and F1 EDM's? They are MUCH cheaper since you are reusing your own injector with larger nozzles. Anybody got to the Dyno with a set or drove both to compare? If you were afraid of getting the injectors checked you could take them to an Injection shop and have them do a pop test. Any Comments?

exactly, most will not do the assembly and reassembly by themselves. Then add into the mix an average 100. 00 charge for assembly and pop testing.

Then you are better off with a true Bosch 275 that run 275. 00/set with no core charge.

The problem is RV275 are too small for most . You cant beat Bosch 275's for the price

Hohn,

In your reply, you wrote (you better not try a set of F1 EDM's. "

Then, you wrote "stick with the safe RV275s or F1 EDMs. "

Did you mess up? Which one did you mean?

Also, I would like some that pour out some smoke!!!

Hohn, I think you just confirmed what I was thinking. I do not drop the hammer hard on my truck at low RPMs, I roll into and when the RPM's are up, I then hammer it once in a while. So with the sublevers effecting when fueling comes on, I have already bypassed that point in the throttle. Plus the HY makes boost very quickly. SNOKING

I'm sorry for the confusion. All I meant was that you'd better not try F1 EDMs AFTER buying something else, as you will regret not getting the F1 injectors!

275s get the nod because they are cheap and known to be high quality. F1s get the nod because many of us feel they are the best on the market at ANY price.
