I am trying to decide on what injectors I would be able to use. I am thinking DDI's, DDII's or maybe 275's. I have read alot of posts from people towing with the 2s or 3s but I would like to know how speed/rpm effects the egt's. I tow a trailer loaded with snowmobiles approx 8000lbs only a couple of times a year but when I do its at 75mph on the interstate for about 16 hours one way. The speed / higher rpm (2500 at 75) is what I am concerned with on how it will effect the temps. If anyone has been doing anything similar to this I would like to hear about it. My other concern is how will the auto hold up with the II's and will I need some fuel system upgrade. The truck is stock except for the air filter. I will be getting gauges before anything. Thanks in advance!

take this with a grain of salt...

since I am no expert, but I think I can offer you what many on here have said before:

You could probably get away with DD3s. I don't know if you have the small turbo or not (some of the later automatic trans trucks have the smaller HY turbo).

I think in your case the higher RPM would actually cause LOWER egt. This is because you are moving more air through the engine to support a given load. If you had 3. 54s you would probably have higher EGT. Also, you are only pulling 8K, which is NOT enough to REALLY tax the engine when you have 4. 10s. If you were pulling 15K plus, that's a different story.

You could definitely get away with DD3s if you have an adjustable box like the Edge Comp that will let you defuel at low boost.

I would go with the DD3s and just watch your pyrometer. If it gets a little hot, back off the throttle. Remember, a diesel's power output (and therefore RPM) is determined by how much fuel is injected. A bigger injector delievers more fuel for a given accelerator pedal position. If you back off the pedal to where you are putting out the stock amount of fuel, then your EGT will be stock also. You can always cool off a hot injector just by slowing down or downshifting.

I think that your 4. 10s are the key to getting away with DD3s. Remember that you will need transmission upgrades unless you drive REALLY carefully. That's almost impossible when you've added an extra 100HP:D

Another learning question for me. I have a 2000 3500 w/ an auto. How can I tell which turbo I have and what difference does each one make?? Plus or minuses, I guess I am asking.

Well off top of my head if its stock, you got a HX35 w/12cm² housing. Floor It is in Lawrence and could help you out with questions on your truck and what not. Hes got a fuel pressure test gauge and he just got the Cummins VP44 testing tool.

Thanks KatDiesel

I think I might know him, or actually his dad. Sent him a PM, looking forward to hearing from him. Again, thanks!! Robin

Robin,

If your truck is a 2000 w/ auto transmission, you should have the HY-35, with the 9 cm^2 housing... at least that's what I believe is stock on all other 24 valve trucks, except early 98. 5's... not sure though, but I know my auto has the HY-35. One easy way to tell is to look at your wastegate setup... if it's hardlined, then you have the HY-35, and if it's the hose type, then it's the HX-35 (at least this is the way it's been explained to me).

HY35 started on 2001 trucks.

Floor It outbid me on EBay for that testing tool! :{ :{ It would be in my hands right now if I would have been able to watch the auction till the end... . I was too busy bombing @ Big K's bomb-a-thon! :-laf :-laf

You snooze, you loose.

He got a STEAL on it for $220! New, Cummins sells them for $405. :--)

I know we were both watching it, he was prepared to pay upto $350 for it. He called Cummins too, they quoted him $385. I got outbid on a head by another member because I wasn't wable to watch it until the end (had to work and it ended 2 hours after I left)... ... so I know exactly how you feel. Hes got it already too.

If you read my setup below and see what I am running. My EGT's are above 1350 degrees with the HY 35 a little bitty turbo. My buddy with a HX 35 has the DD3's and his EGT's are alot lower 1100 degrees I believe. I hope this helps a little. Your Auto transmission I dont believe will handle the DD3's.

Oh, uh nevermind..... It wouldn't be in my hands now even if I saw the auction end. :( I was going to pay $300 max! :D :D

At least if I was there, I could have jacked the bid up for him! :-laf :-laf
