2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Which lift pump (aftermarket) to buy

Have a friend with a 2nd genner and I suggested him buy a aftermarket pump and pressure guage . Need some input

Several to choose from FASS, Glacier Diesel Performance (Walbro) & Holly seem to be the most popular. Not to slam any other product in any way shape or form, just MHO: for the money and customer service, I went with the Glacier System, 2 micron filter, big lines and GFS-392 pump close to just over $400. And gauges I went with Westach from Genos - if your friend has an auto I recommend a combo boost/EGT, fuel and trans temp gauges.

I'm with Joe on this one. If I were building a fuel system from scratch it would work around Glaciers pumps, filters & lines from fuel tank to VP. That Walbro pump is running at an idle in our application, it's very quiet from what I understand and is cheap enough you can keep a spare in the glove-box for emergency's.

Fuel pressure gauge is numero ono though. Gotta know for sure your VP44 is being fueled.

I have been very pleased with my FASS 95 GPH pump only. Easy install, solid 20psi at idle and 15psi at WOT.

I just put a Walbro on mine. I didn't buy the kit though. I shopped around on the internet and got the pump, pressure regulator, strainer, and draw straw. I bought the hose from my local parts store and spent about $275 total. The kits are nice because they include everything. But it can be done for alot less $$.

I also am a FASS user(150/95-1010 @ 45psi) on my 12v and am very satisfied with the pump. The throttle response gained suprised me and how much smoother it idles is amazing. It also made changing the fuel filter a ton easier but ridding my truck of that PIA factory one. I had tired of hanging over the fender and trying to be Gumby to get at the factory assembly. Now its easy,use a creeper,spin them off and spin the new ones on... ... Andy

For you guys who are fans of Walbro & Holley, what should we make of the fact that those weren't designed for diesel & that the mfr's purdy much recommend that they not be used in Diesel systems?... & wouldn't that void any warranty coverage?

Fuel preporator 5 yrs -60,000 mi. If you go with the fass - airdog you just put some barbed fittings in the stock LP and throw it under the seat for a spare.

The MITUSA is similar to the GDP but is all US made. It is a mechanical lift pump and you use a Hobbs switch to run your factory electric pump until the MITUSA makes pressure. Being a mechanical pump it flow more as RPM and fuel demand increases.

The Holley classic red/blue/black series vane pumps will work ok for awhile, but I am trying the new HP-150 gerotor pump and so far, I love it. Smooth and quiet, much higher quality and more heavy-duty than the red/blue/blacks, and decent pressure with the Vulcan Big Line kit.

Glacier has their stuff priced with the common mod pumps, but you can get it MUCH cheaper. I had the Vulcan big line kit and just added a Walbro 392(same as the Glacier pump) total cost for pump and fittings 139. 00. With Vulcan kit 260. 00

AIRDOG is the new name for FUEL PREPORATOR.

There was some postings on this a while back. The original owner of fuel preporator was having kidney failure. He sold his company, and the new owner renamed the company pue flow technologies. He also renamed the filter assembly/pump to Airdog. Now, the original owner had a kidney replacement and bought the company back and just left the name.

I just purchased the Airdog 150.

I researched the Fass and the Airdog, and from what Ive read the Airdog has MUCH better fittings. I also have read that FASS has BAD cust. service.

Which Pump To Buy

I bought a 95 gal Fass and installed a Stanadyne pre filter just ahead of the tank and it maintains 16 to 19 lbs constant. No more idleing down to 5lbs with the stock pump. I also left the stock pump on and capped off the line just ahead of the fass and I keep a length of fuel hose in the truck just in case. just switch plugs and put the hose on and back to stock. Works good for me after 3 stock lift pumps. A Hughes Central Oregon I buy all my parts from Source Auto in Portland (Milwauki) TalktoRip great service and honest.

It is on the 24v - - The 12v has a mechanical lift pump and a less touchy injector pump.
