I run Redline MTL in the Tcase. I have Redline Shockproof Heavy in the front and rear axles. All synthetic. Minimum of 140 is recommended in the rear by DC if you tow heavy.

I use 5W-30 synthetic motor oil in the transfer case. I have run it for over 100k miles with no problems. Shifts smooth too!

Yes, the factory fill in the trasnfer case is ATF. I think the main reason they use it at the factory is to reduce the number of lubricants they have to have on hand. ATF is a great hydraulic fluid. It has friction modifiers in it to help the clutches grab correctly. However, neither of those properties help ANYTHING in a transfer case! The trasnfer case needs LUBRICATION above all else. DO NOT use heavy lubricants like gear lube in it! There is a pump inside that lubes the rear bushing. If the oil is too thick, the pump can not move it and the bushing will fail. That is why I use synthetic 5W-30 motor oil. It is about the same viscosity as ATF, but a better lubricant.

This is me: Amsoil 75w90 front, 75w140 sever gear rear (I tow a lot), MTF in the NV5600, Series 3000 5w30 in the T-case. Next I will put the MTF in the T-case. Been running the motor oil in there for probably some 170k and zero problems.

ATF in the transfer case.

front 75w-90

rear, I personally ran 75w-90 and towed 13K lbs. With Amsoil and a Mag Hytec temps never got even close to out of control. If you feel you tow heavy enough for the 75w-140, no one here will tar and feather ya!

This was the set up with my 02 2500 HO 4x4.
