Quick-spool twins: anyone hang a SPS66 underneath the stocker?

Edge Customer service

Just wondering what to get for a mild upgrade that the stock transmission would hold up to for a lenghy period of time? And something that I'm not gonna have to mess with the fuel pump right away. By the way I already have the gauges. Some people tell me get a box that does timing/duartion, some people say pressure, some say injectors.....

Have had these ideas thrown out at me just wondering now which one.

Injectors 50-90hp?

Edge EZ?

Quadzilla XZT?

Superchips Flashpaq?

SMARTY?

Ramifier? What ever that is? Never heard of this one yet?

I have the Quadzilla XZT. I like it but I'm getting the SMARTY when it is available for my truck.

Why you switching? Is this SMARTY suppossed to be like #1... Everyone seems to be really talking it up... . Just wondering if its supposed to be that good and worth waiting for?

Haven't heard much regarding the transmission durability of the newer transmissions but how about a valve body and/or torque converter with controller? That way as you start doing more add-ons your transmission is better positioned to support them. You may also get more power to the ground also which could help your performance.

If i do the transmission though, i want to do it all at once and do it right the first time and thats gonna be spendy up front... . cause i would want to do the Valve body, Torque converter and flex plate, all in one sha-bang and that would cost to much to do right now and besides, would like to keep my warrenty for now, its too new to throw away the warrenty yet, thats why right now i just want to start out small and work my way up... I just want my transmission to last as long as i can get it too last. You think if i do the transmission now without any performance upgrades i'm gonna notice more power stock... . I have heard people say that before... . they say the stock transmission doesn't put all the power to the ground... ?????

Well, I have never heard of anyone being disappointed with the Smarty, or the Catcher, for that matter, for very long that is. Marco seems to fix every problem very quickly when someone finds one. None of the other companys will do that. I haven't heard of anyone regretting putting one on their truck.

Some people will never be happy with the power they have and will always want more. Power costs money, upgrades on the clutch, T. C. , transmission, rear end and it won't stop. I don't need 500 hp, the XZT I bought was only to "hold me over"until the Catcher ( now Smarty ) was out for the 3rd gens.

I agree with OL Ratlr. I went to Scheid two years ago and got hooked. I started out with an Edge EZ and was fine with that, so I thought. As my signature reads, if you want to play, you have to pay... . but all worth it. I fell down that slippery slope a long time ago and I havn't stopped falling

Can't argue with doing all the transmission stuff at once. That's how I did it but then my transmission was failing. Just wanted to mention the partial transmission upgrades in case you hadn't considered them. Regarding what you notice with a transmission upgrade, I'm not sure if it is just a perception thing or the performance is actually better. I know my truck was much more "driveable" at all speeds after the upgrade. I also have seen others comment regarding improved performance. I think it mostly has something to do with improved power transfer through the torque converter and more positive lockups by the valve body. That said, from your original post, most of the other suggestions are more valid than anything I would suggest since I have an older truck and no experience with the electronic control boxes.

I think the Smarty/Catcher is the best thing going, but I'm not sure I'd consider it "mild". Sure, it's only 60hp or so, but the torque rise is so fast that it may hurt a stock auto trans.

Of course, there are milder softwares in Smarty that will ensure you can find something that's easier on the trans.

For safe upgrades, it doesn't get much safer than RV275s with your stock electronics, as KERMA pointed out.

Or an EZ is mild. 3 position adjustable, no tearing up transmission's or breaking stuff. There is one in the classifieds cheap. As long as you have gauges your good to go.

Just get a TST and run it on the lower settings, then you got something you can grow into, and add to.

Once the power bug bites, you'll go through 2 or 3 other boxes and end up with a TST anyway.

I would recommend the Smarty as any first choice. The "Wow Factor" for stock plus Smarty is pretty darn good.

In my case, basically the Smarty completely changed how I want progress a bomb build-up for my truck.

The van Aaken C3. 1 works good for a pressure box. Ifyou don't like pressure the C3. 2 is a duration box. When you use the C3. 2 with a Rokktech sensor it works very nice.

For the price, I don't think there's anything better than the XZT if your goal is to get the most you can without compromising your stock drivetrain. If you plan to have a lot of power later, you can get a "big box" now and try to run it at the lower settings, but as most people here will admit, that's hard to do. With the XZT you're into it for not much more than 200 bucks, and when the time comes to upgrade, you're not going to lose much selling it.
