with all the new turbos... . which one would ya try for a hotrod

i think this is a viable thread

I just want to know which one you think you would try and why

comparably equipped vehicles only please

I just want to know what everyone is thinking, by all means I would like input from all the players

Thanks B... .....

I'm getting a HX-40 from Piers. it's new but not the Varible one. Why because Piers is the man when it comes to making power with our 12 valves...

Brandon, If you are talking about which new turbo for your truck I would say the Hx-40 you have now is pretty darn good.

Which housing do you have?

Kurt Yardley is coming out with a new B-1 turbo here real soon. I am on the waiting list for this latest toy.

It is rumored to have a much stronger shaft, higher boost and still spool fast. I am patiently waiting for it. I have a kwikspool Hx-40/12 now and this thing spools up very fast. Faster than my 35 did with the 16 housing on it. It screams!

With the big plate you got in that 12 valve I woukld hang with the Hx-40 and consider the B-1.

Of course we got the twins to think about too!!!!!

Don~

HX40

But, I'd have to say get the version with the exhaust housing for the power range you want. When you order it up, also go find a #8. Got to be out there on the used market cheap. :) The #8's EGT is too much for the HX35, but not for the HX40. :D

Forrest,

you have bomb-itis as bad as I do.

My symptoms are starting to get worse every time I go to a dyno event. I always need more and I swear my truck talks to me, asking me for more HP:D

I am even considering buying a second 2wd rig just to make into a street fighter.

Where does it all end??

Don~

You got that right Don. :D I want so badly to make a commuter/street machine I can taste it. It would take the form of Bill K's automatic though. Probably would have twin turbos, HVAC style. :) Still haven't figured out which gears yet, but leaning twords the 4:10's.

I thought BOMBing would end with the #8 slid 3/4 forward. My guess is the plate was @ 380hp + turbo + injectors + exhaust. I figured something would break, so enough was enough. The problem was EGT still wasn't max'd out. Room for more fuel. :D

Brandon if you have a hx40 all you need is a housing to make it work properly. The next step is the h2 hybrid. Personally I don't know about the B1, I'd like to see a map for it, otherwise the h2 is as big as it gets for usable turbo sizes. The variable sounds like alot of money and servos.

If you like email me and I'll give you prices. Also ask Blair. He should be getting back from his first big trip with my housing on. :)

Me too

Brandon,

I have a bigger Turbo on my Christmas list as well. :D :D :D

It's not the only thing on the list either,

Later Bro,

Scott

P. S. you guy's from the south cummins up here on the 15th for the dyno event ??? check it out in the events board.

IMHO, I think that for racing/commuting with a BOMBed CTD 4. 10's are kinda overkill. We make so much torque down low that getting out of the hole isn't an issue... . not to mention that we make more power/torque the more we load our engines..... lower (numerically) gears would allow you to load your engine more... . have more usuable top end... . and better MPG.

holeshot,

I figure there are a number of factors. Most threads I read talk about towing heavy on a regular basis, versus not to choose gears. However I would also add that if I wanted to add a 3" lift, dual shocks, 36" tires, etc. etc. AND had an automatic transmission w/93% tc, I would prolly want 4. 10's in there so I could get rolling in less than a week. Or would 500hp do it?? hmmm..... Dear Santa... .

Hey B, I think the HX-40 is going to be the ticket with cost in mind. The Adam housing is working awesome and so far the drive pressure seems to be in check, I will double check it next weekend but at about 50 psi (which is to high) I had 60 psi drive pressure. Let me know what you think B but so far I think I am keeping this HX-40!!!! :D May be some day when I get bored I might just try the DBR twin combo.

With 500hp, you'll also have about 1000+ ft/lbs of torque.....

If you can't get some 36" tires moving rapid-like... you've got problems.

At 500hp, making the driveline last becomes an issue...
