Which oil filter Should I use?

I am getting ready to change my oil and was wondering what oil filter most of everyone likes or is using?



I read somewhere that a fleetguard was NOT reccommended for the 5. 9 cummins... . That might be old news but i dont know.....



So please HELP.

i always use a wix oil filter they have always worked for me and i also add 3 bottles of lucas oil stabalizer.

Nothing but Fleetgaurd here, afterall, they are a Cummins subsidiary, aren't they? 3 bottles of Lucas, hopefully those are the smaller bottles, why not just buy the gallon jugs like I do?

the place where i get my bottles only carrys the small ones. but i think the lucas works great.

You probably heard that on a Ford forum, but the correct wordinig is that Ford does not recommend Fleetguard filters on Cummings engines".

Fleetguard. Buy them from Geno's. First I have heard about not being reccomended. My old truck (94) I used whatever the auto parts store had, and changed my oil every 5,000 miles or more. The engine never burned oil and ran as strong as new when I sold it with over 200k on it. I personally believe that the Cummins will outlast the vast majority of owners wishes to keep the rest of the truck (for whatever reasons) no matter what kind of oil/filter is used.

Walk into any big rig repair shop or Cummins Distributor and see what's on the shelf.

Always fleetguard, made by Cummins and its what came on your truck when new. The Dodge fuel filters say stratapore right on them.

You COULD run whatever filter on the 12-valves... the dodge TSB on filter restrictions was brought about by the intro of the 24-valve which runs hotter and has more pressure than a 12-valve... the issue was with neoprene being used in the filter would disentigrate from the heat (and plug passages) and the fact that a 24-valve "could" balloon a "12-valve" filter with too much pressure...



I know Fram was a big no-no, but the old number was superceded by the ####A filter.



I ran purolator, fleetguard, and Mopar filters... the mopar filters are actually rebadged fleetguards... I had both a fleetguard and Mopar side-by-side and they were identical in every physical way short the paint.



The purolators I ran (when I first heard about the "restriction") had a plastic internal sealing ring where the Frams had a rubber (suspected neoprene) one...

K & N makes a nice filter too. Has a 1" nut welded to the bottom for easy removal. They claim high pressure capable. Sold around here @ G. I. Joes.

Is anyone using 24V filters? I have 3/4 of a case of 24V filter I bought for my 02 and have used 2 so far on my 05. Are there any differences other than the ability to use the filter socket?

They will work, been there done that, yes the only difference is the fluted ends.
