Valvoline Premium Blue (synthetic), Fleetguard filter (Stratapore) all from the local cummins dealer, the oil filters are about 1/3 the price at cummins than from Dodge.

No complaints at all.

Wix Filters have been around forever. They're good, but there's no reason not to get Fleetguard Stratapores when they cost the same if not less and they use a better filter media.

I am trying out the Rotella Synthetic oil this time, only have 150 miles since the change, has anyone else tried it?

I use rotella, cause well i dunno, walmart sells it A buddy of mine owns 7 big rig diesels and he is the 3rd generation to take over the company, the only thing he suggest's is that once you start with a brand, dont change brands and if you never used synthetic, dont switch back and forth

I have run Wix for many years. I just did my first oil change and used Wix (and Delo 400 until break in is over and then it is back to my Amsoil), on my new 05. I have not seen any posts about the pros and cons of this filter. Any thoughts?

If you're going to use the Amsoil, you might want to checkout the "Donaldson" ELF7349 for your Dodge. AS per Cummins Spec. #10634, Efficiency requirement is 59. 5 Percent. This filter was 98. 7 percent Efficient. The Capacity for Cummins is 54g, the ELF 7349 is over 120g. The Donaldson filters are available from Amsoil Inc.

Wix filters are about the same cost as Fleetguards. But I want the assurance that if my Cummins decides to go south, I have the right filter on it.

Their catologe is full of goodies to enhanse your truck. I beleive as I write this that the newest oil classification is " DL" rating -look for this on the bottle as API (american petrolium instuted ) regulates the viscosity (oil weight) and additivies classification "DL". Now as oils get better this last letter will move up to the next one "M" and so on. Also you can run these enhansed oils in your auto's if they meet the SAE viscosity ratings. The latest API diesel oil performance specification is CI-4 PLUS. For Gasolene engines the latest specification is SM. The (API) American Petrolium Institue regulates the Perfomance rateings, where the (SAE) Society Automotive Engineers regulate the Viscosity grades, such as 5W-30, 15W-40 and etc.
